The Student Coun- cil again did a fine job of decorating the gym for the dance. It was a beautiful setting in which Kim Neslund was crown- ed Homecoming Queen by last years King, Randy Adkins and Tim Leisson was crown- ed Homecoming King by last years Queen, Barb Steen. Dancing to the music of Crush everyone seemed to have a very enjoyable time, thus adding more happy memories . 1974 Homecoming Court 12 Homecoming “Homecoming 1974” Homecoming 13 1973 King Queen Randy And Barb “1974 Candidates” Ronnie and Kim Tim and Kim Rich and Linda 14 Homecoming Steven Maronde Penny Miller Freshmen: Bob Wagner G Cindy King Attendants Sophomores: Rick Roop Sheila Barber Juniors: Brad Miller G Barb Roush Homecoming 15 Junior This year the Junior class play was made up of three I Act plays, which primarily dealt with dra- matic themes. The story was about a young architect who also cared for his orphaned sisters and an unpredictable broth- er. Peggy, a young girl who sells hosiery unexpectedly finds herself involved with the family and in love with Jeff. But in her way stands beautiful and rich Lenore Hudson who wants Jeff to build her a house complete with him. Un- fortunately the house is to set on a lot presently occupied by young- er Hy's football team. With Peggy's help, all is finally solved. This is the Winkel plan. The won-lost record does not tell the whole story. One of the goals of the Varsity team was to develop into a strong basketball unit by the Regional Tournament time. This goal was accomplished in that the Varsity team won its last three Upstate-Illini Conference games. There will be five seniors, four of them starters, to lead the Leaf River Demons' basketball fortunes next year. Since the Demons were not involved in conference play the big” game of the year would be the first round district game on May 8th. At the outset the factors controlling the Demons’ fortunes were unfavorable. All but 3 games of the April schedule were washed out by rain and cold weather. However, as the sun began to brighten in May, so did Demon Fortune. Ten games were completed in May. Tom Barber became the first winning pitcher for the Demons with an 8-6 victory in the first game of a double-header. Brad Miller had an 8-0 victory also. Rick Roop called both winning games from his catcher's posi- tion. Tim Leisson belted a 3 run homer and Bob Wagner drove in 5 runs while Jay Leisson had 6 hits. Overall the defense improved and the team batting improved 100 points. The overall record was 2-12. Tim Leisson was the batting champ with .333. Pitchers were: Tom Barber, Brad Miller, Tim Leisson Rick Roop. Catchers were Rick Roop, Jay Leisson and Brad Miller. Baseball 47 FRONT ROW L. TO R.: H. Huenefeld, A. Klentz, R. Wilson, A. Routt, J. The 1974-75 Demon Club revitalized itself in a membership drive that saw almost every varsity letterman in school joining this worthwhile organi- zation. Its focus became school service by the Lettermen. The membership drive was coupled to a fund-raising project to purchase for the school a multi-station weight-training machine. This physical fitness aid will be a health and skill benefit to all the students in the school. At this writing, the goal is almost reached. Plans for outings to see college and professional level sports were also a part of the Demon Club activities. A trip to a college track meet and a pro- fessional level sports were also a part of the Demon Club activities. A trip to a college track meet and a professional baseball game are also on the agenda. The Demon Club, under its dynamic president, Jay Leisson, wishes to thank all those who have helped it to reach its goals this year. 56 Demon Club Student Council FRONT ROW L. TOR.: K. Cederholm, K. Besides planning and decorating for the annual Homecoming dance and celebration, the Student Council also has been busy planning a new kind of Homecoming for the festivities next year. They have met with other schools and their councils and exchanged many new and interesting ideas. The Student Council also had their 2nd annual Muscular Dystrophy Drive on March 17, from which a total of $161.27 was collected from the students for this worthwhile organization. The Student Council is indeed a service organization for the school and has served L.R.H.S. very well. Student Council 57 s.o.s FRONT ROW L. TOR.: Adviser, Mrs. Jenkins, Sec. J. Snyder, V.P. V. Again this year the F.H.A. observed F.H.A. Week with a variety of activities. Money made from monthly bake sales was used for a trip to Quaker Oats Kitchen and the Woodfield Shopping Center in Chicago which was very interesting and enjoyed by all. 60 F.H.A. F.F.A FRONT ROW L. A new addition to Leaf River's extra-curricular activities this year has been the weight-lifting club. A large number of the school's boys, under the direction of Mr. Harmston, began a group looking to improve themselves physically and mentally, through weights and self-defense training. The group was divers - from 70 lb. 6th graders to 180 lb. upper-classmen. But all were together in work- ing very hard and progressing. At the outset in November, most of the boys could barely handle 60% of their body weight. By the end of the winter, all could bench press well over their body weight, many could dead lift twice their body weight, and some could curl nearly their own weight, an outstanding accomplishment.
