GAA not only spells out Girls' Athletic Associ- ation, but also loads of fun and lots of learning. In the fall we scheduled Initiation Night. All new members who had met the requirements re- ceived certificates and pins. Just before a de- licious supper the officers and sportheads lead in a candlelighting service in the study hall; we then left for White Pines for the first night of our roller skating activity. The members voted to buy sweatshirts in blue with the GAA Illinois emblem on the front. April 19 the Club spent a busy day hosting Playday to ten schools. The Demons went all out to prove themselves worthy of recognition. They compiled the best record Leaf River High School has had. There were twelve seniors on the squad who wanted to make their last season a memorable one. They finished the season with a 5--2—1 record overall. The Demons played tremendous ball for Coach Fry in every game. The highlight of the season was the game which saw our arch rivals, Forreston, go down in defeat in a 7--6 game before a large Cardinal homecoming crowd. The Demons trailed at half time 6--0 but did not let the score discouage them as they went out the sec- ond half and dominated the game. This victory gave the Demons a great lift as they completed the rest of the season undefeated. Next year the returning boys will have to work hard to fill the vacancies left by these twelve seniors. The Fresh-Soph team was short in manpower with only twelve boys on the squad. The coaches had hoped for a better turnout but the young Demons had a commendable year with a record of 3--1. The team followed the example set by the Varsity when they defeated Forreston 34--0. The team members feel that they will be capable of filling the positions left by the graduating seniors. Leave it to young Bill Jackson to get himself into a terrible jam. But can you blame him for not cor- recting a wrong impression when fifty thousand dollars are at stake? You see . . . Bill is a doctor of Philosophy and a college professor, which means he really can be called Doctor all right, but his fiance, Angela, has a wealthy cranky uncle who likes medical doctors but is strongly prejudiced against professors. When Angela brings Bill to meet Uncle Henry at the hospital and introduces him as Dr. Jackson, Uncle Henry thinks he is a surgeon . . . and no one corrects him because he promises to give Angela and Bill $50,000 for the first life Bill saves. One laughable situation follows another. There wasn't a dull moment, a single unnecessary line, or a serious scene in the entire play. Time to take temperature. THE BOY WHO CHANGED THE April 25 came and went, but for the Seniors of Leaf River High School it left a special memory. It was time for the annual Senior play. From the cradles of civilization arose The Boy Who Changed the World. The setting was in the clearing of one of the first towns. George was a typical cave boy until it came to the three C's-- climbing, clubbing, and clobbering which he couldn't quite master. He wanted to make his name big in the world, but all he could do was paint pictures, make poems, invent music. Finally the time came when George found his true love, Mozelle, and together they in- vented the wheel. Why didn't I think of that! WORLD Director--Mrs. Esterly You like to have it? MT.
