FUN KNOWLEDGE The 1968 LE-RI-CO-has captured MEMORIES of school life. There are the everyday occurrences chatting with friends, fighting the lunch line and drinking fountain line, rushing to classes, term papers, and exams. There are exciting memories of enthusiastic crowds, spirited Demons, play performances, music contest, and hectic activities. This is SCHOOL LIFE '68. 3 FRIENDS SCHOOL SPIRIT Compliments of CASHWAY FEED SERVICE Bob Tillou Leaf River, Illinois 738-2317 JEANIE PATTERSON 1967 ROYALTY: BOB GALLUP HOUGHTON STUDIO 8 E. Main Street Mt. Morris, Illinois Hopes were high for a beautiful Homecoming week- end--fair weather and lots of SPIRIT. Our hopes were shattered when huge snow flakes and Mr. Cold came in. Despite the bad weather our SPIRIT was still at a peak in our student body. Throughout the week students wore school colors, painted bright blue and white banners, decorated for the dance, perfected skits and gathered fire wood for the Pep Rally bonfire. At the pre-game rally, balloons were launched with the traditional GO DEMONS--GO! The seniors won an award for their skit, Demonman to the rescue. The Demons began their struggle for a victory, but the Forreston Cards managed to push through the De- mon line for a 27--20 victory. A dance and royalty coronation followed the game. Excitement mounted as to who would be crowned as the reigning couple. Accenting the theme, SIGHT YOUR GOAL, there was suspended a huge, sparkling silver star. Students, faculty and alumni danced to the music of the Jacques. Jeannie Patterson and Rob Gallup were crowned our royal couple. A special song was dedicated to a lovely Homecoming Queen Jeanie and a handsome King Bob. Homecoming 1967 is a cherished memory. FRONT ROW: Linda Jenkins, Sharri Davis, Joe Grove, Tom Mulford. THERE'S NO QUESTION ABOUT IT SURPRISE WITNESS . . . The Seniors had a new problem in producing their class play. Since the regular stage was made into a class- room, they had to make their own stage in the gym, but with creative minds and willing help a stage was finally assembled. Meanwhile the cast prac- ticed and slaved every night learning lines and preparing for the final production on April 26. That date rolled around all too soon. Getting last minute costumes, learn- ing last minute lines, and making sure the stage was ready went into that last hectic week. As the lights dimmed, butterflies were calmed and the Senior class produced the courtroom drama YOU, THE JURY to their waiting au- dience. Daytime activities held at the Wagon Wheel in Rockton, Illinois, included swimming, bowling, ice-skating, golf, horseback riding and sightseeing. It was topped off with a program and a smorgasbord banquet. The dance was held at the Bertolet Building from 8:30-11:30. The band played from inside Cinderella's coach. On March 30 we had a dance to raise money featuring the Tyme from Belvidere. Then in May we held our traditional Mother-Daughter Banquet. The members who had earned them were presented with their awards and a program of jumping rope to music was given. This was our farewell to the seniors in G.A.A. who had given us many memories. Spirit This year eight new amendments were added to the SOS constitution, indicating the growth of this active club. The most talked about amendment dealt with the required attendance except at eight games through- out the year. This lead to the choosing of an advisory board including representatives from each class, the three officers, and a member to represent the boys. At Homecoming the SOS carried out the traditional decoration of the goal posts and making a Cardinal effigy. For money-making projects the club sold mums at Homecoming and made booths for Spook Night in March. Cherie Schuz was chosen the new Demon Mascot and performed routines at home basketball games. This year the club presented a uniform appearance which gave a good impression of the school. At every game a large number of loyal fans came to cheer and frequent comments were made on the good school spirit shown. SOS set a new record in game attendance due largely to the fact that a spectator bus was taken to every game away from home and the addition of boys to the club. Never had we seen so much spirit aroused in our student body! O. L. CAPES Plumbing and Heating Leaf River, Illinois Compliments to the Class of 68 DEE DEE'S CAFE Leaf River 28 ... Unity . .. Loyalty The Demon Club reached its highest goal, the purchase of a trampoline, in a very active year. It is already being used extensively in all P.E. classes. To raise the money the club sold Demon pins, had cookie sales, and sponsored a faculty VS Old Timers game. The G.A.A. contributed $100. The successful year was due in large part to the officers: David Wehmeyer, Pres; Bob Gallup, V. Presj Gary Fogle, Sec.-Treasj Allen Butterbaugh, Sergeant of Arms. Mr. Block and Mr. Fry, advisers, should be given credit for motivating the Club to so many accomplishments. Tom, Dick, and Harry! FRONT ROW: S. Lancaster, R. Conkey, J. Birkholz, S. Penn, G. Wood, R. David Wehmeyer was our man elected to the Route 72 Conference. Tom Mulford received an honorable mention. Many pleasant memories come from promoting school spirit and pride at representing the school. Although cheerleaders and pomponners accomplish their goals in a different way, the enthusiasm and spirit are still the same and for the same purpose. Being a cheerleader or pompon girl doesn't just pertain to the school year either. During the summer, the cheerleaders choose uniforms and start practicing for the football season, while pompon girls march with the band at parades. This year Kara, Sharri, Faye, Jeanie on the pompon squad and Linda, varsity cheerleader, will graduate. These five girls are going to be missed very much, but there are always willing girls to fill the vacancies. As adviser of both groups Mrs. Jenkins in her words shares in the work, fun and memories. Working with girls of this calibre affords me one of the greatest pleasures of teaching. Compliments of Compliments of TOT AND TEEN SHOP MT. MORRIS CLEANERS Mt. Morris, Illinois Mt.
