Under Mrs. Wood's guidance we learned our reading, 'riting, and 'rithmetic. In the spring, we all took a trip to the Brookfield Zoo in Chicago. On coming back to school, we second graders found we had lost a few classmates over the summer, but we had also gained a few. Miss Pagett instructed us in second grade subjects, and then accompanied the class on the train to Savanna and back in the spring. We arrived at third grade well on our way to becoming intellectuals! Mrs. Wilson helped us along by- teaching us how to multiply and divide. Giving a happy ending to the year, we took a trip to the Museum of Science and Industry in Chicago. Mrs. Nash welcomed the new fourth graders back from summer vacation. We had geography for the first time and also learned to do long division problems. Spring rolled around to see us off to Field's Natural History Museum in Chicago. Back as fifth graders, Mrs. Newcomer taught us many things, including World History. Later in the school year, we had a picnic out in Mrs. Newcomer's woods. She later treated us to the Shriner's Circus at Rockford's Beyer Stadium. Our sixth grade year was quite eventful. With Miss Gertmann at the head, we visited the WREX-TV television station; had a picnic in Craven's woods, where we got to ride hay wagons over the creek; and took a trip to the Museum of Science and Industry. Things changed a little bit our seventh grade year. For one thing, we had two teachers instead of one; and we no longer had a mid-morning recess. Mr. Prust taught geography and science, and Mrs. Dunk taught the rest. We had a picnic celebration to commemorate our promotion into eighth grade. As eighth graders, we had four teachers. Miss Gertmann taught American History; Mrs. Dunk taught literature, grammar, and spelling; Mr. Miller taught science; and Mr. Winn taught mathematics. Grad- uating from eighth grade on May 28, we were now- on our way to high school. You have never seen such timid and obedient freshmen as we on the day we entered high school. Be- sides a few money-making activities --nothing! We did furnish card tables and food for Homecoming and then served the refreshments. Compared to our freshman year, our sophomore year was busy. We seriously started thinking about next year's prom. We had charge of the coat check at basketball games and sponsored fudge sales and a car wash in order to make money. Busiest by far was our junior year. We were kept jumping getting ready for the prom which was held at Chestnut Mountain Lodge at Galena, a winter and summer resort. The prom was a lot of fun and a huge success. Most exciting was our senior year since we knew this was our last. The juniors gave us a wonderful prom which took place in Chicago. The highlight of the day was getting to see the stage play, Fiddler on the Roof. The biggest day of all, though, came on May 31, graduation. After all those years, we had now become high school graduates. With future plans of four years of college, nurses training, trade schools, branches of the service, and other occupations, our education will have stood us in good stead. These blazers have added much to the appearance of the chorus. At contest this year, the chorus received only an ex- cellent rating, but this gives an incentive to improve next year. One of the highlights of the chorus was to attend an opera at Platteville. We started out, but due to a snow- storm, the opera company was snowbound in New York, and the opera was cancelled. Even though we missed the opera, we had a nice bus ride. STEVE'S BODY SHOP Phone 734-4548 Mt. Morris, Illinois FORRESTON READY MIX Located at N. The 56 active members of this club meet every Thursday to work toward awards given at the annual Mother-Daughter Banquet. To promote enthusiasm, the girls sponsored a Gym Jam. This was a busy Saturday in February with lots of fun and games and a dance in the evening. En- tertainment was provided by the WONDERIN' KIND. Chris Wittenbeck and Tonda Satterfield were the Co-Editors. The reporters covered their beat getting the local news around the school. This year the annual Seminar was held at Boylan B H CHRYSLER-PLYMOUTH INC. Mt. Morris Phone 734-6208 Sales and Service High School, which was attended by 12 members of the Leaflet. Also on the agenda for the year was the usual Junior production of the paper. After a lapse of several years, the Leaflet began an exchange with other area schools. This exchange was beneficial to the Staff, allowing us to make a comparison of school papers. DONALDSON'S DAIRY SERVICE Dairy Lane Products Mt. Our two new coaches, Mr. Fry and Mr. Lessen, worked hard with the team teaching them new forma- tions, new ways to tackle and blocking to improve. Our non- conference game with Hiawatha was a hard hitting game dead- locking in a 6-6 tie. The scores from there on look depressing, but with every game we did improve. Unfortunately, with every game we added to the injury list also. We seldom ever had the same team at the end of the game that started. During the Forreston game there were six starters not dressing because of previous injuries. Looking on the bright side, only four varsity lettermen are leaving, and with the up-coming freshmen, and the lettermen returning next year, look forward to the most exciting year yet for football! Al- though the Demons had an un- eventful year, the Demons sup- porters were there to back their team all the way. These lovely young girls were dancing to the music of the tra- ditional tom-toms as beat by the High School Band. The reason for their actions was to put great SPIRIT into the minds of their fighting DEMONS. Many a courageous battle has been fought on this famous field with the six maidens doing their very best in cheering their boys onto victory. Compliments of TOT AND TEEN SHOP Mt. The Big Week End Homecoming 1967 was an event that will stand out in the memories of all. Long hours were spent during the entire week preparing skits, decorating gym, and making sure everything was set for the big weekend. With screams, laughs, and cheers, the Homecoming pep rally opened. Class skits proved to be a humorous tonic for the day's fun and pep talks raised the hopes for the victory to new heights. Climaxing the pep rally was the blazing bonfire. The Friday night game was our only disappointment of the big weekend. We cheered loudly and our team did its best, but we were defeated by our Franklin Center opponents. However, every- one returned Saturday night in a festive mood, to attend the Coronation Ball and whirl to the music of the James Fee Orches- tra. Climaxing the ball was the coronation and the crowning of the King and Queen. Streamers lay about, the dance floor was empty, but Homecoming 1967 will remain in every heart as a happy memory. Continuing its tradition of success, the illustrious Class of 68 presented a comedy entitled Lock, Stock and Lipstick. After four weeks of hard but fruitful practice, it was dubiously presented to the public. The perform- ance was received enthusiastically. The Class of 68 has the reputation of surpassing previous Junior classes in their achievements and this pro- duction upheld their claims! Everyone in the class had a job in this play. Those seniors not in the cast worked hard getting the scenery, stage, and spot- lights, ready and working. Practice was long and laborious with a few touches of gayety mingling in here and there. The cast worked hard at learning lines and following stage directions. The last week before the play was devoted to creating the scenery and giving the play the polished look of a Broadway stage play.
