S with .J QPU' Starting all the football season with a 9-0 victory over the Speartish Spartans. the Goldtliggers went on to gain the Black Hills conference championship. Rounding up the Belle Fnurche Brnncs on their nvvn stamping ground, the Diggers were on the lung end of the 19-0 score. In Sturgis the Muckers dug their way through a Scooper defense. finishing up with a 4145 score. Golddigger Day brought Lead their first defeat on the gridiron this season, when a strung Sheridan team walked tiff with 12-T honors. Sporting their publicized aerial attacks, the Diggers invaded VVyoming on October 21, and pllt up a good tight against the Kasper Mus- Pigskin parade tangs. The worried YVy0mingitcs were victorious 23-12, as had been predicted, but not without strategy and hard playing on their part. The Mttcker eleven niet their equal in the Hot Springs Bistin, and the scrimmage ended 7'7. Traditional rivals met when the Diggers and the Deadwtitid hears clashed on the mountain-top gridiron. but the Diggers wnn the close game 7-O. Settling the Black Hills championship on the Leadites. the Rapid City Cobblers came nut of the Armistice Day scrimmage on the short end of the I4-O score.

Friskey Carroll Ramp Huston The Diggers opened the season in September with seven lettermen. These returning gridstcrs were Luken, Millett. Olson. Mooney, Muth, Andersen, and Christianson. The team came through a successful season under the strategic leadership of Captain Guy Mooney and the able coaching of Dunmire and Bell. 'l'wentv boys received letters for their participation in football: Laitala. Gammon, Blevins, Chapman, Roth, Millett, Comer. Lukerl. 01500, Mooney. Muth, Andersen, Christianson, Poppleton, llall, Swanson, XVaterland, Greene. Kottt, and Becklev. Ross Luken, senior, won the coveted position of end on the All-State team. Millett and Hall were chosen for second team positions and Ulson and Andersen received honorable mention. Lettermen who will return to grace the football field next season are Laitala, Beckley. Gammon, Blevins, Chapman, Roth, Millett, and Comer. Lead High will lose Poppleton, Hall, Swanson, NVaterland, Greene, Kotti, Luken, Olson, hlooney, Muth, Andersen. and Chriviiiillslln through graduation. During the past season Lead has played the usual good line of football and with aerial attacks has won favorable publicity in our own and neighboring states. XVith a strong defense for next year's line-up, the Diggers promise an interesting season under the leadership of Captain Thomas Chapman.
