The smooth operation of l..e Roy High School rests upon the very capable shoul- ders of our Principal, Mr. Richard C. Fitch. However, Mr. Fitch does much more than administrate the school ef- ficiently. for he has become the trusted and respected counselor of almost every student in Le Roy High School. He plays an active and helpful part in our work, our recreation, our projects and organi- zations, and our plans for the future. Mr. Fitch can always be depended upon to gladly give of his time to help any student who needs his friendly advice or tactful guidance. lt is something special to he a l.e Roy student, arc words we often hear from our Superintendent of Schools, Dr. lion- alrl li. I lorr. Yet, nothing has done more to help the l.e Roy students to hecome special than the respected guidance and counseling of Dr. Horr. lle is much more to the students of l.e Roy lligh than our chief commander . llc is also our friend, admired and respected hy each of us for his fairness in dealing with our prohlems and his pleasant way of giving a cheery smile and friendly word to every student he meets. A. 0'Geen Seniors Wle, the Class of 1960, began our senior year with the election of Richard Mogavero to head our class through what has been a busy and prosperous year. Our first undertaking was the operation of the refreshment stand during football games. Next, came the annual spaghetti supper which helped to initiate a sense of class spirit. During the Yuletide season we decorated a Christmas tree on the campus and spent an evening singing Christmas carols. ln February came our senior play, VVhat A Life, in which a large audience was entertained in an evening of mystery, comedy, and suspense. The Class of 1960 instituted a new event, the Mardi Gras Ball, in which the couples came in costume. Wle completed our senior year with the de- licious Tountas supper, the unforgettable senior trip and ball, climaxed by Class Night, Bacca- laureate, and Graduation. And so it is with fond memories that we bid farewell to our Alma Mater, thus signifying the end of our stay at Le Roy High School. Mr. Cahill, Mrs. Lecmen, Mr. Lane L l f QU . '-..V,. Wie had very competent leadership with Jerry 'Ball as president, Ernie Curtis as vice-president, .Timmy Kanaley as secre- tary, and Reed XYilliams as treasurer. The high- light of the year for our class was the junior prom, f'Lavender Bluew. Greens and a Christmas tree provided a festive air as the dancers whirled to the music of the Rowmannaires. ,lack ,leary and Carol Merriam reigned graciously as king and queen of Lavender Blue . Our Class of 1961 sponsored a record dance in order to raise money tor the March of Dimes campaign which was carried on simultaneously in the village of Le Roy. Next in the class's calen- dar for the year was a class assembly which held the audience in stitches. Members of the lunior Class carried on an exciting campaign when they ran for the oFF1ces of president and vice-president of Student Coun- cil. XVe also participated in the annual Larkin Speaking Contest and sent delegates to Model Congress and Science Congress. YVith the guidance of Mr. Stitt, Mr. Panko, and Miss Suttell. our advisors, we think we have had a very profitable junior year. l RONV 4: J. I-Inf-kvtt, R. Gray, E. Curts, K. Kunetro, G. Hull, IC. Under his able leadership, with the assistance of Louis Frank, vice-presidcntg Bonnie Liradburv, secretaryg and Thomas Yauchzee, treasurerg our class has had many activities and enjoyed many good times together. Some of our members can easily be found in almost every or- ganization of lselioy High. As an entity, we have presciited a line assembly program, taken whole busloads to games, sold hotdogs, coffee, doughnuts, and pizza at basketball games, and participated in the Sophomore Speaking Contest. Vtfe were certainly not lacking in athletic ability or musical talent. Sophomore boys par- ticipated in sport activities, urged on by the en- thusiastic encouragement of cheerleaders from our class. In the Held of music the band and choruses are well supplied with Sophomore talent. The class would like to give its heartiest thanks and sincere appreciation to the advisors, Mr. Starkweather, Mr. Putnam, and Mr. Mange- frida, without whose help the good times enjoyed by all would most certainly not have been possible, and without whose aid our treasury would not have had such a proline increase. The Sophomore Class has found this year a wonderful step in their four years at Le Roy High. ..Y.,. ...in-tr, lr. Alntlii-rs, D. T'ulll-yhlnnk, G. Snell, D. Pi-oskoski, W. Lafferty, J. Spriugett, S. Our goal was to have a worthwhile. prolitable, and wonder- ful freshman year. l'Ve elected Betty Lou Leone, president: Mike Pridgeon. vice-president, Dar- lene Peters. secretaryg and Gary Roth, treasurer. Our class was fortunate to have Mr. Hillis, Mr. Joslin. and Mr. Gallagher as advisors who helped us greatly with their never-ending efforts and guidance. One of our most profitable projects in mone- tary values was the candy, pop, and potato chip stand at the home basketball games where hard- working freshmen sold refreshments to basket- ball admirers of all ages. ln the flrst semester the skilled portion of our class performed in an assembly An After- noon of T.V. , which was climaxed by a surprise double cross Hlt Could Be You for Mr. Hillis, the director. The freshman boys participated in junior varsity football, basketball, and baseball and were a great asset to all the teams. Many clubs and organizations in the school were proud to include ambitious Freshmen. Eighth Grade The Class of 1964 got off to a line start with the election of the following capable officers: Barry Panepento, president: Ronald Paganin, vice-president: Charles Verney, secretaryg and Sandra Sherman, treasurer. Our First activity was a Fun Night on Nov- ember l3. Although it was just for enjoyment, we did increase our treasury a small amount. Everyone enjoyed himself participating in games and stunts. Wie rounded out our year with a skating party in M arch. The eighth grade contributes many line athletes to Le Roy High School. The All Star team certainly made a Fine showing. In addition to our regular classes, various activities consumed our time. Vtfe had basketball players, cheerleaders, actors and actresses, skaters, and dancers. Vfe sang, played musical instru- ments, and tumbled in the gym exhibition. Most of our time, however, was spent in attending classes. studying and learning. VVe would like to thank our advisors, Mrs. Murphy and Mr. Kurth, without whose tireless, help our class activities would never have been carried oi? so smoothly. And now, as we say good-by to junior high school, we are sorry we: are leaving but we are eagerly looking forward to our next four years at LHS. ROXV -l: Ti, Athi-rtuu, M. Iiotln, S. f'r:iv:utt:1, W. Fm-lt:-s. 1. 59 1:23 -'f ,V Seventh Grade the big step into junior high school can be a very exciting one! It was this year that the Class of 1965 took the big leap. VVe recovered temporarily from the first shock of becoming junior high school students and chose James Vlloodworth to lead us through the maze of school life. Karen Merica became vice-presidentg Donna Lindsley, secretary, and Judy Grasby, treasurer. Under the leadership and guidance of our ad- visors, Miss DeVoe and Mr. Taber, we set out to make this a successful year In December we had a fun night and it was just what the name implies There were games of all kinds, delicious refreshments, and skits per- formed by each homeroom. The class realized what a good time they could have together. The school spirit the seventh graders possess is tremendous. XVe took a special bus to the exciting Pavilion game to support our basketball team. Later in the spring the class activities in- cluded a skating party. Our class also contribu- ted considerable talent to the annual Junior High assembly program. The First year has been fun-packed and We are looking forward with anticipation to our re- maining years at Le Roy High. HOW 4: S. Wielmer, S. Elnrlianrt, C. Lt-gg, N. I'zl1:1dino. lt. Y:1r'uzzo, D. This group meets one hour each week. Although the Boys' Chorus never performs as a separate group, it serves as the tenor and bass sections of the Oatkannaires. Varsity Baseball A successful varsity baseball team under Coach lay chalked up an impressive record for LHS in the 1959 season. Wlith the Knights' spirit undampened and their courage undaunted, they captured the Section 5 Class A champion- ship. However the road to the Sectionals was rocky. A troublesome Albion nine set the Wooclrujf on the fmomvcl Knights back in an early season game but Le Roy came back to rally and defeat Albion twice in succession for the honor of entering the playoffs. The rampaging LHS nine steamed through their next game, clipping Arcade. In the finals against Painted Post the Knights won 3 to 1. The l959 team, coached by Mr. .lames Carson, a cadet teacher, had a mediocre season winning seven out of the thirteen games played. The highpoint of the season was in the Albion game. Although the boys lost by a single run, the experience and fun of playing this hard- fought, one hitter was tremendous. Also, games were played against Batavia, Notre Dame, Perrv, and other area teams. V , 'N The J. Good-Bye Le Roy High School. Le Roy, New York June,l96O Dear Fellow Students: Throughout the l96O O-AT-KAN we have attempted to captureiiiwords and pictures a view of life at LeRoy High School. We have tried to include all those things you will want to remember - classes ani teachers . . . activities . . . sports . . . traiitioas - all those things which are LHS. Most of all we have strived to show our deep pride in our Alma MateI'and our appreciation for'all that has been done within her walls. The entire class wishes to express sincere ap-S preciation to each and every person who has helped the O-AT-KAN staff in any way, for without their generous assistance this yearbook would not have been possible. Special credit is extended Mr. Paul Stark- weather, who is the yearbook adviser, and Mrs. Marian Russell and the Photography Club who have been of tremendous assistance.
