El! 'S' EISHOFVS OFFICE in '7- GA sri CLASS OF 1968, LEMOYNE COLLEGE: Your decision to attend a Catholic college was based, in part at least, on your love of the Faith and your desire to cultivate that Faith in the rich soil of Catholic principles and Christian values. During your years on the Heights, there has been a signi- ficant renewal taking place in the Church. You have discovered, I am sure, that this revitalization can be a great source of inspiration if it is understood properly. There are many interpretations today of what should be undertaken in the Church. Everyone, it seems, has an opinion. Such varied reactions can be helpful if we keep in mind that the authentic interpretation of these recent events is the province of those whose right and duty it is to lead the Church. The Second Vatican Council made many modifications, but it did not change the fact that we must attune our- selves to the teaching authority of the Church. Despite her human fail- ings, she is the guide Christ has given us: HChrist, the one Mediator, established here on earth His holy Church, which He unfailingly sustains as a community of faith, hope and charity, a visible organization through which He communicates truth and grace to all.n CConstitution on the Church! LeMoyne has deepened your appreciation of the Faith. In this HYear of Faithu, I encourage you to love your Church, the interpreter of that Faith. For it is the Church, and the Church alone, that can lead us in the correct direction: HWe still seek a city, but we do so as already its citizens, we know the road, however dark, which leads home. It is the Church.H CAmerican Bishops Pastoral Letter! As I congratulate you and your loved ones on this auspicious day in your young lives, I add the prayer that your love of the Church will keep pace with your growth and advancement in life. God bless you and may you nKeep the Faithn. Sincerely yours in Christ, BISHOP OF SYRACUSE 9

LE MOYNE COLLEGE LE MOYNE HEIGHTS SYRACUSE, NEW YORK 13214 O T To the Men and Women of the Class of 1968: It seems awfully remote in history to recall the night of September 13 , 1964 when we met in the Auditorium of the Administration Building. As the freshman President, I welcomed you, the freshman students, to Le Moyne. The spontaneity and the enthusiasm that pervaded the hall that evening are still in my mind, and I even remember my final words to you: You and I have a wonderful opportunity at Le Moyne. Let us make the most of it. . For you, the Le Moyne opportunity is almost completed and you have made the most of it. Part of the fulfillment for me during these stirring four years has been to share with you this opportunity. Some of you I have come to know very well: with all of you I have felt a special bond since the night we met as fellow freshmen. I have even presumed the privilege of speaking of you as my class. Now you graduate, proud sons and daughters of Le Moyne: I stay behind - still on probation !! The manner in 'which each of you has made the most of your college opportunity has varied: in class and without, on campus and off, in moments both serious and light. Not to be discounted as part of this experience have been your points of disagreement, especially with a benighted administration. For making the most of this wonderful opportunity, I extend to each of you, personally , my sincere congratulations. Our campus is different for having had you: it will be somehow less 'without you. At the risk of overdoing the clichef, I state my conviction that the Le Moyne opportunity will always be yours: to grow in and to share the ideals and the blessings you have garnered on these Heights. Our prayers will always be 'with you, as with all of the loyal alumni whom you join. May Almighty God, in His Special Providence, guide you to fulfill His Will as part of the eternal opportunity that is yours. Thank you for being with us. Come back to the Heights soon and often. i Sincerely yours , William L. Reilly, S I President
