af' XVe were welcomed aboard for our four-yea.: voy- age in September, 1952, an cager and enthusiastic crew. willing and able to perform the tasks set before ns. lt seemed a long journey as we set sail for an horizon yet unknown, with rough seas to be con- quered along the way. That first year, with a festive Orientation Wfeek behind us, it seemed smooth sailing for awhile, until thosc miclvsemester marks put ns on the alert, and made tts wary of our cock-sure attitude. It was then we posted a lookout. Our Freshman dance and the annual St, P.ttriek's Day party were huge sutcesses and gat e us that team spirit so sorely needed on this craft upon which we chose to serve. Wfe felt like old salts when we returned for that eventful Sophomore year, and not even our first glimpse of Philosophy could frighten us into the grasp of Davey jones' legendary locker. Wfe had a gay time at the Sophomore Carnival. l-lard work made it a glowing success, Wlill we ever forget lid Zogby as the Egyptian dancing girl, or nur parody on Hamlct? This was the year when we really began tn realize the vistas of learning there were to he seen: when we started to dig in and participate in Chaumonot, bodality, the Dolphin, Glue Club, and Student Coun- til. Witli Father Curtin navigating our ship. we had no fear of getting lost at sea. and took a brief shore leave, before returning For our junior year to be further directed by our now well-known and well- loved counsellor, As we left the point of no return and came into the home stretrh, we were prudent enough to know that we had just gone through the calm before the storm. Some pretty rhoppy seas were ahead, and we were wise enough to realize that to head into the wind was the best way to fight it. Philosophy got tougher, .ind our responsibilities a little heavier, but we gritted our teeth and tatkled all of them. XVC came out on top though, and they were not all rough ,L '-zz 3 i .J O l' ,I ' .fbi its the 'hong to .J t, ,B ht that C0 1- Kxy , . untS 'Vi in . F! -x. unior times. Wie had calm seas too. Remember the Al Prom? Sauter-Ifinnegan set the pace for some smooth dancing. And the Communion Breakfast was an inspiring, as well as convivial, gathering. As we entered our Senior year. some surprises were in store. XVe were sure we could roast home now--'twould be smooth sailing the rest of the trip. But the wind, was soon taken out of our sails, as Ethics and Theology bared their sharks' teeth. With jim Prevost at the helm, we settled down to a well-ordered final year. Ottr Senior party showed 0 e who h-id hail any doubts that here was a ship any n . manned by a crew which one could point to with pride. one which any foreign craft would hesitate to aceost. After the marks tame through in january, we who had made itf' threw ourselves into the work .rheavl on the Senior Show. Ine Ptlllano proved worthy of the important trust we had in him as show director, and we tame up with at smash hit. Stop the Presses will hold it prominent' place in our memories. And our own slim-waisted Louis Brin- r.lisi's rendition of jose Greco will always be rernem' be-red. Our Senior Trip was one we would not have missed for the world. New York City was the site of a gay .intl busy week-end, one which will long live in uur book of never-to-be-forgotten events, There have been manv things-'our studies. our religious attiiities, our side trips to Siena. :tad our improniptu gatherings, which have welded rt bond among us in this foursvear journey, bitt the certain 'ntanfribles the spirit of unity. the love we had for I r F, . . nur crewm.ttns,--these are euuallv unforgettable, and t tttlly unsurp'tss'ihle The friendships we have made ei : . . .
