Socce r Joe Boehm - Coach The liall ot' l9ii marked the sccord season in which Le Moyne has participated in soccer. However this was the tirst season, that the Green and Gold booters had a formal intercollegiate schedule. Play- ing four games. the Dolphin forces failed to come up with any victories but did hold their own and were nev er outhustled. The booters met schools which have long been active in soccer and could not cope with the superior experience. V l The season was opened lwith a game against Oswego at the latter's field. Oswego drew first blood but the 'Dolpins came back and knotted the score at 1-1. In the second half however the Teachers outplayed the Dol- phins and scored a 4-1 victory. Successive games were played with Genesseo, Hobart and Clarkson and Le Moyne was bested 4-O, 3-0 and 4-0 respectively. Individually Le Moyne showed much talent. In the goal was Don Bartle and he came up with some spec- tacular saves. Pete Del Giorno and joe Sinithling gave the Dolphins plenty of power at fullbacks. The leaders of the attack were Kidd, Perry, Ross and Daly. Wfith experience, the Dolphins will prove to be tough oppon- ents. HI . 1 -- . . . ., is rr., rf I - ' ii 8 J 49 N ' ' 4 .I fr xl: .A . Lou and Rod have been leading the varsity while .Ierry has been pacing the freshmen runners. In addition to attending many eastern meets, the harriers held their own annual Le Moyne Invitational meet in which Canisius won the varsity team title and Bartz broke all existing freshmen records by winning that event. The Dolphins also sponsored the Middle Eastern Conference Championships on the 3.5 mile campus course in which they placed second to Iona College. In addition to these two events the Green and Gold played host to the Le Moyne junior run which was held for the benefit ot' the high school track teams in the surrounding area. Besides sponsoring various events, the thinclacls attended such notable meets as the Collegiate Track Conferences Cross-Country Championships, the National Collegiate Athletic Associations meets and the Boston Marathon. Mowins, Mgr., D. Halpin, H. Hoffman, lir. McGann: Front, B ' Mitchell, B. McNamara, B. Fisher, D. Wfalserg Absent, YI. Bednarski. The Le Moyne College linksmen last year and this fall have proved themselves to be among the top golf squads in the east. Last year the Dolphins were unbeaten against collegiate competition although they did suffer two losses against the ever powerful Sampson Air Force Base team. In the Fall of 1955 the Green and Gold golfers bested all the members of the M. E. C. C. A. in the first annual medal tournament. Henry Hoffman was the top man in the tourney and took medal honors with a score of 76. Siena played host for the match which included such schools as St. Bona-venture, St. Francis, Iona, and St. Peter's. The Dolphins are ably captained by Gus McNamara and find their best golfer in the person of john Bednarski who averages in the low 70's. Barry Fisher adds additional strength to the squad with an average of 78. The return of Dick Walser to the squad this season will aid con- siderably since he is regarded as the top young golfer in this area. Next season the squad will meet Syracuse and Cornell and should give a good account of themselves against this tough opposition. Fisher and Holifmair discuss shots
