LYNCH President ,-1 -xf D GRABOWSKI Viz e Piermfent g . -.'.:.L.,..-1--2. .4 . 1,3.a-2- In this section which honors the officers and members of the co-curricular activities, it is only natural to include our Student Govern- ment, The Student Government is the cohesive agent in the co-curricular world at Le Moyne. As for the students in general, the Student Government is their official representative body The Government belongs to each student, and each student has a definite part in its func- tions through his representative. Exactly what are the functions of the Student Government? It is the duty of the council to represent the students to the administration and faculty, then, to encourage student respon- sibility and to coordinate the academic, social and cultural programs of the college. With these aims in mind, it is easy to see that Student Government work ranges from the Herculean to the seemingly trivial. Usually this group is thought of simply as a legislative body but the truth of the matter is that its executive and judicial departments are busy the year round also. Looking at the record, the major accomplishments of the Stu- dent Government during the past nine months have been the institution of a Student Discount Service, a Business Directory, a Leadership Training Program, and a smoothly functioning Election Committee. The Council has also formulated plans for a Student Book Exchange and a Campus Chest. On the social side, our Student Government sponsored Orientation Week, the Pep Rally, and Winter Week-end. It might do well to mention here that the National Students Association CN. S. A.j at Le Moyne was responsible for planning and carrying out the Student Discount Service and the Leadership Training Program. The N. S. A., as its name implies, is a na- tionwide organization which promotes an ex- change of ideas between the -nation's colleges and the individual campus. The N. S. A. Com'- mittee in a college functions under the Student Government of that college. It is what we us- ually term a service organization. The N. S. A. Committee may be called upon to plan pro- grams for the college, give advice and assistance to college projects, and gather information on various phases of college life. The N. S. A. Committee at Le Moyne has approximately fourteen members whose aim is to serve the students, their organizations, the faculty, and the administration. Returning again to the Student Government itself--,lack Lynch, the president, set as his goal the organizing of an effective representa- tive government that could well serve as the. foundation for subsequent governments. His fellow officers, Delores Grabowski, Dick Lom- bardo and Rosemarie Quilter ably assisted and supported jack in achieving this goal and in making this year a fine one for Le Moyne's Student Government.
