LUDLOW Remrdifzg Secretary The Sodality of Our Lady is unique among the coacurricular at Le Moyne since it is not merely an organization but a way of life. By the Act of Consecration to the Mother of God which he makes upon his reception into the Sodality, each Sodalist pledges himself to a lifetime of striving, first, to perfect himself, and, secondly, to sanctify his neighbor. Since all that a Sodalist does is undertaken under the aegis of the Blessed Virgin, a member of this association is called a Sodalist-from the Latin Jodfzlir-a companion, a comrade of Mary. To achieve the first goal of the Sodality, self-sanctification, the Socialist, after undergoing a trial period as a candidate, assumes daily spiritual exercises which are best calculated to reach this end. These include Mass and Communion, mental prayer, the Rosary, frequent confession, and planned spiritual direction. Wleekly meetingsalso develop and renew spiritual motivation. To form himself in the lay apostolate, the Socialist volunteers several hours a week to activities such as the CYO, the .House of Providence, and catechetical instruction. By thus working with others the Sodalist confronts actual problems and has the opportunity to express his love for neighbor in concrete terms, as well as to train for the life of missionary zeal which he will assume more fully upon graduation.
