CLASS HISTORY LeRoy School's veteran members caught their first glimpse of the school when they entered kindergarten September 1936. They were Betty Caldwell, Barbara Tate, Signe Sutherland, Louella Holcom, and Erland Engstrom. These five were soon joined by Celestine Swem and Margaret Briggs. Since we were the nrst kindergarten class in the new LeRoy School building we have pratically grown up with the building. During all this time we have managed to keep both teachers and fellow students on the alert wondering what we would do next. Aside from the rubber hose, standing in a corner, staying after school or in a recess plus standing in front of the room with gum on our noses, our angelic group managed to fare well enough to continue happily on from one grade to the next. By the time we reached the Sth grade we had grown quite a bit in size but in number we were small. Out 8th grade graduating class consisted of Celestine Swem, Signe Sutherland, Barbara Tate, Margaret Briggs, Betty Caldwell, Louella Holcom, Ruth Stanton, Marjorie Rowe, Merle Bates, Erland Engstrom, Roy Davis, Ernest Ruppert, and Arvid Johnson. The first six of this group were given mention as being the highest scholastically. In September l9h6 twenty-two frightened Freshmen climbed the stairs to the study hall, where theyfwere to spend their next four K?l years. Members of that courageous group were-Merle Bates, Morris Lincbin Ronald Tate, Ronald Davis, Barbara Tate, Margaret Briggs, Nancy Mills, Irene Williams, Ruth Stanton, Joyce Kanouse, Norma Bregg, Richard Davis, Roy Davis, Signs Sutherland, Celestine Swem, Erland Engstrom Louella Holcom, Roger Kenney, Philip Novac, Ernest Ruppert, and Betty Caldwell. We held our first class meeting September 9, l9h6, and organized by choosing the following officers--President, Betty Caldwell, Vice- President, Celestine Swem, Secretary, Barbara Tate and Treasurer Signs Sutherland. Mr. Tacoma was elected as our class advisor. One October night after Potato Digging Vacation found us dressed in various unbecoming and ridiculous costumes ready to perform at the whims of the Sophomores. After consuming a delicious meal Cfor which we paid by clearing and removing the tables! we ascended tc the stage where each one was brought to the proper degree of humility to become full fledged members of LeRoy High School. With a nod to our Vice President Keith Holland, our newly elected Bresident Ronald Davis, called the first Sophomore class meeting of l9h? to order by listening to Secretary Margaret Briggs' report followed by Celestine Swems' information as to the state of the class treasury. The treasury at any one's guess was not exactly running overl Here we gained Aileen Miller and James Davis. When initiation time finally rolled around once more it was our turn to humble the green Freshmen. The Freshmen were served a delicious and tempting banquet. Heading the menu was creamed chicken. Our next attempt to make money was the selling of candied apples to the students during the noon hours. This proved surprisingly suc- cessful. We also sold homemade candy and cakes at basketball games. 'Only two more years leftln echoed from our number as we began our Junior year of high school by choosing Barbara Tate as President, Roy Davis as Vice President, Celestine Swem as Treasurer, and Betty Caldwell as Secretary. Out of 23 Sophomores there now remained only 21 Juniors. Those we lost were Keith Holland, Nancy Mills, Morris Lincoln, Joyce Kanouse, and lorma Bregg, Before the year was completed we lost Richard Eastway, Virgil and Waonia Davis, and Ronnie Tate, but we welcomed one newcomer Fay Johnson.

I m pEarly in the year the class participated in a magazine ,selling -odnlett. The Juniors v. s. the Seniors. tThe Seniors came out on top but the campaign netted us 378. At the P.T.A. Hallowe'en Carnival we had a booth at which we sold cake, ice cream and coffee We sold potato chips, candy bars, pop corn, and gum at basketball games to earn more money. Also we sponsored several bake sales. Thriftily the members of the Junior Class vigorously oa paigned to break the school custom of purchasing class rings-during the Senior geari Here we scored a victory when almost everyone in class voted or t.
