Those students who most fully understand and appreciate Mr. Paulsen and the many jobs that he maintains are the treasurers of the different classes and organizations of our school. If asked, Mr. Paulsen would most assuredly tell you that his job would be less confusing and less troublesome if he did not have to find and correct the countless errors of these young and inexperienced accountants. But as each student knows, whether he has been a treasurer or not, Mr. Paulsen is not only a fine bookkeeper but he is also a fine friend. Before he became our bookkeeper, Mr. Paulsen served our school as both custodian and bus driver. Not only has Mr. Paulsen contrib- uted greatly to our school and community, but so has his family. Mrs. Paulsen is a former secretary for our school and Darlene, their daughter, is a former Miss Lawton. Both their son and daughter graduated from Lawton High School. The sole purpose of this club is to promote school spirit by creating a feeling of pride, in the efforts and accomplishments of one ' s Athletic teams. Throughout the sports season members of Pep Club work on posters, locker orna- ments, and Pep Skits as well as sponsor dances and furnish cakes for CakeBRaffles . Anyone, girl or boy, from the eighth to the twelfth grades is welcome to join the club. There are no special qualifications other than paying the dues of fifty cents a year. The enthusiasm and interest in a school is only as strong as the students, themselves, want it to be. They make the school what it is; dull or exciting. Every student can contribute to his school if he has the desire to do so, whether it be through his artistic talent, his imagination or just his willingness to help. By joining the Pep Club or any of the other clubs he is showing a desire to contribute to the success- fulness of the student body. Every Pep Club President hopes that the majority of students will share her interest and desire to keep the student body enthusiastic. If each student gives some time, effort and vitality to school organizations, this interest will connbine to give us a spirited school--one which we can be proud. They have participated in a number of events this year. Among the events were: marching, playing, and assisting the Senior Band at home football games, the Midwinter Concert, the Solo k Ensemble Contest, and a Spring Concert. Due perhaps to the small size of the Band, it is possible tor the band director, Mr. Hill, to give each Bandsman a lot of individual attention. The students all feel that they learn a great deal under this system, and we agree--the Junior Band sounds better and better as the weeks go by, and we feel that all its members will become integral parts of the Senior Band. Senior Band members proudly model their new nnarching uniforms, which, along with help from the Band Boosters and the School Board, they helped to earn by various money- raising projects. Their old uniforms were passed along to the Junior Band, which you can see above. The models are, left to right: Pat Pfister, Joan Harrison, Shauna Adams, Mardelle Brown, Gene Gess, and Pat Miller. This year, the Choir, under the direction of Mrs. Schaefer, presented many enjoyable programs. The event which required the most preparation was the Christmas Program on December 18. The elementary music classes also participated in the program. The most popular song presented at this event, at least among the Choir members, was Do You Hear What I Hear by the composer that wrote Little Drummer Boy. The Choir also sang for Thanksgiving and Good Friday Assemblies, at the Art Show, and at Bacca- laureate. Several small groups were formed within the Choir throughout the year- -one of these groups won a prize in the Talent Show; another sang at Commencement. Alto- gether, the Choir had a very successful year and provided a great deal of enjoyment for the Student Body. 196 OMING ROYALTY From three candidates selected by the Senior class, the student body chose Joann Radtke as Homecoming Queen. The Varsity Club chose their favorite senior football player as King--Tom Sherman. Princesses and Princes from each of the other classes served as the court: Helen Mann and Harry Waite (11); Linda Howard and Dick Pfister (10); and Terry Heintz and Ricky Irons (9). AND WE DID 1 FRESHMAN SENIOR Run ' Em Over was the Freshman ' s prize-winning float--an honest-to- goodness wooden train that did ins pire the Devils to beat Saugatuck ' s Injuns. Faculty members judged the floats, and the Student Council awarded $10 to the Freshmen and $5 to the Seniors. JUNIOR SOPHOMORE Who?? Us?!! WHAT Air-conditioning? The Senior Class left on their Senior Trip bright and early (5 a.m.) on May 22. Everyone staggered aboard the bus, and some even tried to sleep as we rode along to- ■ward Chicago. We stopped at the last Glass House on the expressway for breakfast, spent an hour there, and then went on toward Brookfield Zoo. We spent some time at Brookfield, where everyone was entertained by the sights, sounds, and smells(?). After Ida and Kath returned to the bus, we set off for O ' Hare Airport, where we had a pleasant tour arranged by Dorothy ' s uncle, Mr. Raymond Wan- ink. We toured a jet, and the boys had a great time watching the stewardesses, while the girls kept their eyes on the pilots. OUR SEN Umm! At last! ! And me without my suit! Great White Hunters Let us tell you about Brookfield- And as the sun sank-- After leaving the airport, we went to Howard Johnson ' s for a light snack, and then on to Maxwell Street, where several mennbers proved that they had great bargaining ability ! Several girls had their fortunes told, and one class member was offered a set of rings that originally cost $400 for $4. Free time came next- -shopping, riding subways, and stopping for light snacks, were among the activities that occupied the class. Everyone met at La Salle Street Station and changed their clothes and then followed Mr. Arends (who set an impossible pace) halfway across Chicago to a pier, where we boarded a small boat for a tour of the Chicago coastline. This trip was very relaxing and enjoyable. After the boat trip, we boarded several subways (there was a slight mixup as to what train we were supposed to be on)! and then transferred to a bus to go to Riverview Annusement Park. Everyone seemed to enjoy themselves here, especially on the Para- chute Ride! The tired, hot, and sticky class members then boarded a bus, the subway, and finally our own fanniliar yellow school bus, which brought us back to Lawton at 4 a.m. on May 23.
