Lawrenceville High School Lawrenceville, Virginia June, 1953 Dear Friends, The Editor has given this page to us in order that we might tell you of our class. This is not a history, for to those not of the class itself, a class history is just a long series of meaningless events. We are certain that no member of the class of ’53 needs a history, for each event of these four long, but swiftly moving years, is deeply imprinted upon the memory of each. We have had our serious moments and yes! our studious mo- ments. There have been hours of amusement, wholesome and joyous merriment. There has been praise when it was deserved, censure well given where it was needed. It is said that the pupils make a school. The teachers do much to make the pupils, and we praise the faculty, from Mr. Jones down, for the student body of Lawrenceville High, of which we are justly proud. We have respected our teachers and have loved them. We have obeyed them, fussed at them, while pitying our over-burdened selves, played with them at proper times, and worked with them. As personalities differ, so many of us have picked a particular teacher as his own favorite, but each teacher we have had has become a part of us in varying degrees. We have gathered in the knowledge he has imparted. We have assumed unintentionally, for better (we hope) or worse, a mannerism or a characteristic for which he unknowingly has set the example. We have followed the many classes before us in extra-curricular activities, trusting that the classes and the clubs are a little better for having known us. We have followed tradition in dances, plays, and contests. We have more than our share of honor students. Perhaps that counteracts the fact that we lack our share of athletes. We have known unsuccessful years in sports during our high school days, but we shall not forget the thrill of hard-fought, sportsman-like games, the friendly companionship of games at home and the fun of bus trips for games played away. And so we are saying adieu to you now, dear teachers and friends, students and classmates of L. H. S. We thank God that He has so blessed us that we live in a glorious country, where a child may be educated to follow in His ways. To our parents, especially, and to each of you who has helped us, we are grateful. The Class of ’53.
