By showing what they had with fight, the Indians finished the season with a very respectable score, winning five while losing two and tying one. Most of the team will be back next yearg therefore, another successful football season is anticipated. This year the Freshman-Sophomore Squad went through the season undefeated, winning seven games. They are the nucleus that will bring promising football to Lawrenceville. IIIIIIHIIS 6 pllices 6 Outside of the first quarter the Indians were outplayed in almost every department. In the closing seconds of the game, .lim VI'right caught a Vincennes punt on his own 35 yard line, and, with exceptional blocking, raced 65 yards for the tying touchdown. Indians G Ifohinson 0 The Indians stopped the longest winning streak in Southern Illinois football. 'l'he ltohinson Nlaroons had won 32 straight Illinois games without a loss. The touchdown drive was set up in the first quarter by flat formation passes and quick opening plays. Imlimm 32 Ulm'-q 0 In the first conference tilt of the year. the Indians were impressive by downing an alert Olney squad 32 to 0. The Indian line held the Tigers to only 27 net yards gained from rushing, while the Indian baekfield made yardage on almost every play. vwftl' K Between the Goal Posts the Pigskin Indians 7 Flora 20 The Indians traveled to Flora and for three periods, held their own. At the end of the third quarter, they were leading 7 to 6. The final quarter was fatal as the VVolves struck fire and ran over for two touchdowns. Indians 26 llll. Carmel 7 Playing steady ball throughout the game, Lawrence- ville subdued the Aces by good backfield driving and stellar line play. The only Mt. Carmel score came on a long 50 yard pass over the Indians' heads. Indians 27 Fairfield 0 The Indians journeyed to Fairfield to defeat the Mules mainly by passes. The first half ended with the Indians in the lead 20 to 0 with quarterback Heath passing for three touchdowns, two to halfback VI'right, and one to big Tom Uaddy. Indians 12 Salem 13 Failing to convert on those very important extra points, the Indians lost to a big Salem squad 13 to 12. The game was played in the mud and water with only Bill Newman carrying most of the load by tallying both touchdowns. Indians 4-2 Bridgeport 6 From start to finish the Indians showed too much power for the Bridgeport Bulldogs, scoring 21 points in each half to coast to a 42 to li verdict. XVith the exception of a long first quarter pass which netted Bridgeport a touchdown, the Indians were never seriously threatened.
