MR. HARRISON'S MESSAGE TO THE SENIORS My 'iff li , f I . ' One of the grave dangers to democracy is complacency in taking it for granted. More meaning and more vital significance must be attached to this great dream of Americans. Freedom is not free, it is not bestowed automatically. It must be continuously safeguarded by each generation and exercised responsibly by every citizen. The utter disregard for the worth and dignity of the individual in totalitarian ideologies has created renewed interest in, and concern for, the improvement of human relations. The very survival of democracy depends upon greater equality of opportunity for all persons, irrespective of race, creed, or colorg that continued social, political, and economic discrimination against minorities will undermine and ultimately destroy democracy. The society into which you graduate is looking to you, and all youth of your generation, to accept the torch of challenge which it thrusts into your hand. Through your leadership and sacrifice traditions will either survive or they will give away to foreign ideologies. I 0
