' One of the grave dangers to democracy is complacency in taking it for granted. More meaning and more vital significance must be attached to this great dream of Americans. Freedom is not free, it is not bestowed automatically. It must be continuously safeguarded by each generation and exercised responsibly by every citizen. The utter disregard for the worth and dignity of the individual in totalitarian ideologies has created renewed interest in, and concern for, the improvement of human relations. The very survival of democracy depends upon greater equality of opportunity for all persons, irrespective of race, creed, or colorg that continued social, political, and economic discrimination against minorities will undermine and ultimately destroy democracy. The society into which you graduate is looking to you, and all youth of your generation, to accept the torch of challenge which it thrusts into your hand. Through your leadership and sacrifice traditions will either survive or they will give away to foreign ideologies. I 0 KENNETH YOUNG, M. S. ARTHUR BALDWIN, M.Ed. GEORGE BATEMAN, A.B. Read all about it! lt? Yes, it! The Big Story, the SENIOR CLASS. A big story always deals with people and contains a lot of human interest. As Seniors, they are about to be turned out into a world to fashion their own individual big stories. Some might be inclined to bemoan the fact that they are going out into a world where unrest and chaos reign, but a truly sturdy character will rejoice over his opportunity. There are things to be done, conditions to be corrected, a world to be conquered and re- built. This is a task of the present generation and it should be met with zest and confidence. It is with determination to go forth under their own steam, combined with the regret that they must relinquish their position to their successors that they come to the end of their four years in this institution. May everyone of their followers find the hap- piness and joys that the Seniors have found, that they too may go forth with precious memories. Along with selling pencils, cokes, candy, and other miscellaneous articles, the juniors produced the stage hit A Date With Judy , clarifying the acting abilities of the class members. The ultimate goal was achieved when this class presented to the Seniors the junior-Senior Prom. With such a goodly share of ambition and the eager zest for participation, this class moves toward leadership as Seniors. First row, left to right: M. Brady, R. Kern, A. Riggleman, M. Gaukel, M. The popularity of a mystery is due to the suspense and thrilling climax. The Sophomores are soon to be relieved of the sus- pense and reach the climax by leaving the lower ranks and becoming upper classmen. It would take no detective to discover the good qualities of this class for it has proven itself competent in the activities of L.C.H.S. First row, left to right: W. Palmer, D. Faye, C. Weamire, B. Participation in a required number of games, genuine interest in fair competition, and earnest endeavor in any one sport, are requirements necessary for earning a letter. In recognition of those who have reached their goal, the LETTERMEN'S CLUB has been in existence for many years. This organization, under the sponsorship of our athletic directors, Mr. Bateman and Mr. O'Neill, is for the purpose of promoting good fellow- ship and fair play in the field of sports. As soon as a boy earns his letter, he is admitted to the clubf but in order to remain in good standing, his actions must at all times remain above reproach.
