.I Purves and Kivell Coach Bernie I-Ieselton's Lawrence College golf team made up for a disappointing dual match record by copping third place in the 1955 Midwest conference golf match. The Vikes, led by Ron Kivell, who finished second by only three strokes in individual medalist score, were behind Carleton and three-time defending champion Knox in total team score. Lawrence has finished in one of the top three spots in conference play since IQ45. Dual match play showed only two victories over Ripon and losses to non-conference opponents Stevens Point, Michigan Tech, Marquette, and Oshkosh State twice, for a 1-5 slate. A late start and poor weather thru much of the season hampered the linksmen and carries much of the responsibility for this record. Lettermen Ron Kivell and john Purves paced this year's squad, with letterman Corny Young and Kent Ziemann, Paulf Morton and John Brunswick composing the rest of the team. Brunswick, who placed eleventh in the conference match, along with Morton, Ziemann, and Max Caller, another squad member, form a strong returning nucleus for I-leselton's 1956 title hopes.
