O 4 O .OOO Lawrence's chances for a successful season in T933 appeared to be very good when the team wound up its 1932 campaign in a whirlwind fashion. The fact that practically the whole team was baclc to start off the conference season made the Lawrence backers feel that great things were to be done by the Vilces in the coming season. After the first call for football was sounded, Coach Clapp really got his lads working for a winning combination, There was an intense spirit of rivalry among the players to get the berths. The team ended the season with three wins and four losses. l-lowever, every game that the Viltes played showed them in there fighting, and not once did the team show any inclination to give up until the game was over. Despite the record that was made, both the coaches and the team deserve plenty of credit for putting a real fighting Vilcing team on the field. LAWRENCE O - MARQUETTE 8 Coach Percy Clapp toolc his Vilcing charges down to Milwaukee to meet the Marquette Golden Avalanche in their stadium for the opening game of the season and held the powerful Milwaulcee squad to an 8-O win. It was a wonderful game and the Vilces proved themselves to be a fighting squad and a dangerous one in conference circles. LAWRENCE I3 - CARLETON 7 It was a brilliant day for Lawrence up at Northfield when Walter and Guth found their way over the Carls' goal line for two touchdowns and a 'I3-7 win. The team lived up to all expectations formed in the Marquette game. They played the role of veterans in taking the Carleton team straight to town. 'ra-is was Ami. - LAWRENCE 6- LAKE FOREST O The Vilces played a good game but were not as impressive as they were in their First two games. Walter had the honor of pushing over the Lawrence score late in the last quarter from the Lalce Forest 18 yard line. LAWRENCE 14 -ST. NORBERTS O The Vil4ing gridders galloped hither and yon in their First home appearance but failed to get anywhere until the last Five minutes of the game. Vogel scored on a pass from Leech, and as a result of Nagells interception of a pass, Pete Traas went over lor the second score. LAWRENCE O - RIPON 10 Homecoming found Qld Man Weather snowing wet snow down into the Viking camp, Sally Rand Eberhardy shalcing snalce-hips and wielding ping-pong paddles up and down College Avenue, and then the Ripon Redmen putting the slcids under the Vilces with a 'IO-O victory. It was a tough hard-fought game from beginning to end. However, the Vilces laclced that scoring punch just when it was necessary and so went down in defeat. LAWRENCE O - BELOIT 6 The Vilces put up a stubborn Fight in the Appleton Day game against Beloit, but again couldn't manage to capitalize when the opportunity presented itself. The Lawrence team chased the Blue and Gold team all over Whiting Field, but to no avail. Beloit's score came on a pretty pass over the goal line that found the Vikes napping. LAWRENCE O - CARROLL 14 Carroll closed Lawrence's 1933 football season at Waulcesha with a 'I4-O defeat that proved the Carroll team to be a bunch of worthy champions. They outplayed and outfought the Vil4es throughout the game. l-lowever, the Vilcings never gave up, and the team played its heart out in an attempt to turn the game into a win. - mf. Amt ' Ex Ein t . The business men of this community have certainly shown this spirit. Their contributions, so willingly and generously given, have to a large extent made this volume possible. The constant co-operation of the members of the business staff has made my worlc as business manager a pleasure. Throughout the year each member has given unstintingly of his time and talents in the production of this boolc. l wish to extend to them all my sincere thanks. It is now up to the students of Lawrence to show that they are imbued with this same spirit by co-operating with the business men olAppleton in order that Appleton as well as Lawrence may continue to prosper.
