GRAEFFE, DEAN Industrial Management College Docfor Graeffe was one of a small group of men, along wifh Dean Russell E. Lawrence, who firsf recognized fhe need of esfablishing a new engineering college. Through 'che years fhe col- lege has grown from a small handful of sfuclenfs fo a maior engineering college of nearly fhree fhousand sfudenfs under fhe helpful guidance of Docfor Graeffe. Experience and background are valuable assefs which provide Docfor Graeffe wifh a broad un- dersfanding of world affairs. He received his col- lege educafion af fhe Universify of Tubingen, Germany. ln acldifion fo fhese assefs his work has carried him fo various parfs of fhe world. This vasf background of experience is infer- woven info his many inferesfing lecfures on ac- counfing, economics, and business law. Having once been a lawyer himself, Docfor Graeffe sfresses fhe necessify of clean, logical fhinking on all decisions we find if necessary fo make. Docfor Graeffe has proved himself an excellenf adminisfrafor as well as feacher in his capacify as Dean of fhe lndusfrial Managemenf College. Seventeen

RYAN, DEAN, Engineering College, DIRECTOR, Technical Institute Dean Ryan became a member of the faculty ot Lawrence Institute ot Technology in I945, as Head ot the Chemistry Department. ln l952 Dean Ryan left Lawrence Tech for a two-year period to accept a position as chiet chemist tor the Kaiser Engine Divi- sion ot Kaiser Motors. ln l954 he returned to Lawrence Tech to become Director ot the Technical Institute. As Director, Dean Ryan arranged the curricula tor the various programs offered and supervised th-eir presentation. ln this capacity he lcept in close contact with both high schools and industry. ln July, l955, Dean Ryan accepted new responsibilities when he became Dean ot the Engineering College. Aside trom his duties at Lawrence Tech, he is an active member of The American Society ot Engineering Education, The American Society tor Metals. The Michigan Training Council, and is a Commander in the United States Naval Reserve. Sixteen Heads
