The Prom, which was held at Culbertson Hills Country Club, May 12, 1950, was no exception. The excellent music of Gene Parlette helped to make the Prom one of the most successful ever to be held, The evening was high-lighted by the crowning of the King and Queen, James Blose and Eva Salchli. Queen Eva was honored by four lovely attendants: Carol Boyce, Christiane Hazen, Shirley Heuer, and Jeanne Thayer. This delightful affair was made possible by the following committee members: Nancy Bichler, Chairmang Marilynn Schubert, Dick Anderson, Tharon Fox, James Wachter, Marlene Wells, John Bretz, Betty Thompson, Gordon Petri, and Patricia Hatton. This committee worked hard and long to make the Prom the success that it was. .X M f ffkbfrxwwimagssp uf UQ,-aimfj Q24 QT. gf-T I MOST ATHLETIC MHST STM' C EST UNGERS MOST INDUSTRIOUS OMANTIC TTIEST EYES Y MOST AHTISTIC Beer UANCERS wn'T:EsT LOSE ST TO THEALTAR vw Q. li ' 1 5 f DRESSED ST CUFUPS 1 N My ,K M H'F'f'+Y1avvfw'Mf BEST LOOKING, b., STS- Mosr DIGNIFIED APPLE'POL'SHER5 'VOS MOST INTELLECTUAL QS A53 9915 6951 ,mm ff Jrq ? She always runs to help us When we are in a pinch. What will we do when she is gone And we are left alone? Will people--our utter helplessne Be happy to condone? Oh yes, we are dependant souls, My brothers three and I, But someday our children, too, Will fear for us to die. Nancy Drake DISAPPOINTMENT Expectation overcame me. Impatiently I had to wait. Then it all exploded. SNOWFLAKE I wish I were a snowflake, A-whirling in the air. For if I were a snowflake, I wouldn't have a care. I'd dance and spin and flaunt myself, Out in the cold brisk, air. I'd slide down all the icicles, And land in people's hair. I'd flit around till summer time, Then I would have to go. 'Cause summer suns would melt me, For I am their worst foe! Jean Myers PERPLEXED The doors of life have opened For us to wander through, Which pathway shall I follow. Have you that question, too? To college, a profession? I know not what to do. 52 Bringing me--my fate! Boberta Brindle A brand new license A brand new car The boy is young I'm sure he'll go far. A long strip of pavement A short strip of ice The boy was so young What a s acrificef Judy Lye Lines and rhymes are not for me, As you can plainly see, For with these lines of poetry, I'm sure to get an E. Merry Bobonic An office job, a factory? It's all so very new! Nancy Bichler STORE-BOUGHT There's one day I will ne'er forget As long as I do breathe The day that Daddy dear came home With a pair of store bought-teeth. I still remember his awkward smile As the family in wonder gawked I'll never forget his chattering when poor Daddy ate and talked. Poor Pop! He never had much chance To boast of his new prize For friends who saw him on the street Stared in shocked surprise! Now I know how Daddy feels Too bad he was so blue But now I sympathize with him 'Cause I wear store teeth, too. Betty Jo Kuss MY SISTER I have a little sister Who is really quite a pest. When she goes out to play at night That's when I get my rest. She's always running to and fro with lots of pep and vim In sports she ranks among the top In education-she is dim! Mary Pochey WISHFUL THINKING I wish I could explain the snow, But I also wish that it would go. I want the trees to bud and bear I want the sun to shine sincere. There's a time and a place for all You'd think March would be a time for Spring to call. Patty Mason Futiiity Far away on foreign lands, Stand soldiers weary and worn They die for peace which never comes. In lands of foreign born. Ronny Spadafore CONFUSION SWEETNESS AND LIFE Bright green it was, Standing in the candy case, A long striped candy cane, A shiny new nickel, Held in a grimy, clenched fist, Opened to receive its prize. No longer green is the cane, Nor has it been eaten. It lies on the road as a witness Of the broken child beside it. Judy Berdine FUTILE You can't tell and neither can I, You say you can, just try Does color or size Have anything to do with personality? You say it does Why don't you face reality? Can you tell by the color of a suit? Can you tell by the size of the shoe? Can you tell by the color of skin? You say you can--just try. Lawrence E. Compliments of AIIIED FLORISTS ASSOCIATION OE GREATER ERIE THE NIGHT BEFORE THEY CAME It was night. Now and then a flash made the room light, and a gunshot was heard in the distance. The little girl lay in bed and did not know what to make of all this confusion. The last day had been so exciting and terrible. She did not have to so to school during these last days because the enemy came nearer and nearer, and the parents wanted their children home. So down she went to the beach and met her friends there. While they were playing peace- fully, they suddenly heard a plane over their heads and looked up. It was an English plane, it was the enemy. The other children ran away, screaming, but the little girl could not move. Her eyes had to follow the plane that went out over the sea until it was over the big ship. Then it dropped something. The girl often had seen this in the movies, so that she knew what that meant. The plane dropped a bomb on that ship. A black cloud with little pieces whirling around in it rose from the boat, and then it looked as if there was a big fire swimming on the water. She stood there, her eyes fixed on this terrible and fascinatinv picture, The explosion made the ground shake and the little girl startled, turned around, and ran right into the arms of her mother, who was looking for her. Now, that she was safe in her mother's arms, she cried, but did not really know why. That had been , and now it was night, and the girl was in bed, all dressed with coat and boots on. Any minute they might have to leave the house. Her brothers and sister were sleeping, but she could not find rest. She did not understand this world. Had she not prayed each night that her country would be victorious? And now the enemy came, and would probably destroy the whole village. Slowly the dawn came, and nothing had happened, yet. The street looked deserted, everybody stayed in his house. The girl stood at the window, looking out, waiting for those men she hated. Those men, who had destroyed her home, who had killed so many friends, who had bombed that ship the other day. She could think of nothing else but: I hate those Englishment There they come now, slowly driving up the mainstreet of the villagef' There were three men in a jeep, without any guns. They looked like human people, one of them looked even a little bit like her father. Suddenly she remembered that her father was a soldier, too, and that he also had destroyed homes. He had to do it, because he had to obey orders. He did just the same, as these Englishmen did. She was so ashamed of herself for having hated these people. Suddenly she realized, that they all were equal, they all behaved alike and felt the same things. They had just been separated by a wall of misunderstanding and ignorance for such a long time.
