In many ways your experience covering thirteen years in elementary, junior and senior high schools implies and calls to mind the seasonal and regenerative process that is the focus of your yearbook. Each school year has a rhythmic and cyclical nature with which and in terms of which you have interacted. What is so special and appropriate here at this time in your lives is that you recognize the inherency of this cyclical process in your lives. You are at a stage in your development when such awareness is both critical and necessary for continued success. Truly, the growth process is recurring, is regenerative, is cyclical, and those who understand that never really stop growing. It is my fondest desire and sincere hope for each of you that the next thirteen years will be as full and rewarding as those that you spent preparing for graduation from high school. Sportsnite 245 A REVIEW OF THE YEAR FROM BEGINNING TO END On a beautiful, warm Sunday in September members of the Senior Class gathered for the annual Senior Car Wash. Wearing their senior t-shirts, and with arms full or rags, they arrived for a day of water fights and washing cars. The car wash was a great financial success and showed the spirit and enthusiasm of the Senior Class. The next event was Senior Breakfast. Held at the Carolina Diner, it brightened up a dreary, gray Saturday morning in October. Seniors gathered to eat, talk, laugh, and have lots of fun. This was just the beginning to an active year to come. 247 Halloween rolled into Lawrence with a big crash. Roaming through the halls were many creative costumes ranging from an innocent Big Bird to the unscrupulous Fidel Castro. With their spirit and pep. Seniors participated in their first Halloween party. 248 Senior Ice Skating has always been a popular event. Seniors flocked to Grant Park wearing their hats, gloves and scarves prepared for an evening filled with fun and laughs, This event was such a success that there was a repeat performance later in the season. After a hiatus of two years, a Model Congress convened on the weekend of December 11. Lawrence was proud to host 275 students from 21 high schools. This event was organized by the members of Government-In-Action. The purpose of this weekend was for students to serve as congressmen and experience the activities of Washington legislators. Each Congressman began by debating bills in their respective committees. There were various committees on the Judiary Foreign Relations. and Education. In total there were 14 committees. After committees adjourned, the Senate and House of Representives sessions began. The bills that passed in committee were again debated in the House and the Senate. Though constant hard work and dedication. Model Congress XII was made possible Lets look forward to Model Congress XIII The art students, with the guidance of the Art department chairperson Sylvia Schwartz, employed their talents in order to decorate the halls. Every chairperson's office door was adorned with a mural dealing with the appropriate department. In addition, a group of art students used their air brush skills to paint a colorful mural on the cafeteria wall with an outer-space theme. 256 Graduation is a long awaited event. After 12 years of schooling, we are prepared for the next episode in the cycle of life. Dressed in caps and gowns, high school diplomas were handed to us signifing the conclusion of the final stage of our public education. The friends we’ve made and teachers we’ve had molded our characters for adulthood. Although we will no longer see each other in the familiar surrounding of Lawrence High School, time will not erase our friendship made. Graduation is our final shared event after which we go our separate ways. It is the point where our high school days turn into everlasting memories. T
