From the opening kick-off, it was evident we were going to have an exciting, aggressive, and successful team. The first game was at home where we romped over Oceanside by a score of 25-0. The defense obviously played a superb game as they would all season long. The defensive stars of that game were Mark Cittadino, Ed Holmes, who posted two sacs, Mike Mollo, Averil Snyder, and McKenzey Butler, who had seven tackles. Quarterback Trotta threw nineteen passes and completed nine for 129 yards, while Benny Stamile ran nine times for 54 yards and George Scott ran seven times for 28 yards. They did their running with the tremendous help of the Golden Tornadoes’ offensive line which includes Mike Mollo, Rudy Allende, Joey Mastronardi, Brad Koenig, and Ed Holmes. The next game, Lawrence faced Valley Stream Central. This game was a perfect example of how offense and defense working together could easily overthrow their opponent. Defensively, Butler and Mollo forced fumbles. Cittadino had 7 tackles, Bobby Delain, Chris Trento, and Ben Stamile also played a fine game and Richie Altman had fine tackles and interception. Ed Holmes and Andy Allen each played excellently on the offensive line which resulted in a fine running game. Scott was 8 93, Ronnie Lanzilotta was 9 30, Ben Stamile was 4 49 and Joe Oberer ran 8 times for thirty six yards and Chuck August took the ball 5 times for 28 yards. Rich Trotta threw 5 completions in 13 attempts for 44 yards. Lawrence defeated Valley Stream Central by a score of 48-6. The following game Lawrence came up against Plainedge and again we prevailed by out playing our opponents in each facet of the game. Rudy Allende and Joey Mastronardi played great games on the offensive line which contributed to the 12 for 24 yards running of Ben Stamile and helped Gigi Scott fly 57 yards in 12 carries. Both Scott and Stamile also had interceptions in the game as did Rich Altman. The rest of the defense lead by McKenzie Butler, Averil Snyder and Mike Mollo who had two sacs and caused a fumble. Trotta completed 7 out of 14 passes for 91 yards, two of which went to Donny Stamile, a speedy wide receiver for 70 yards. The final score was Lawrence 27 Plainedge 8. In game four and win number four, The Golden Tornadoes went on to meet and beat Uniondale, the first game where Lawrence didn’t lead throughout. Mollo and Allende blocked well on the offensive line while B. Stamile ran 14 41 and George Scott picked up 85 yards on 14 attempts. Cittadino starred on defense where he collected many tackles and one interception. Snyder, Scott, and Delain with three sacs also played a good game. Trotta had 82 yards in six for 18 passing and Lawrence won 25-13. The Golden Tornadoes record was now a perfect 4 wins and no losses but the next four games would be the most difficult ones. For the fifth game, the LHS football team challenged Berner. Lawrence opened by returning the kickoff (all the way) upfield until they were faced with a fourth down and 3 yards to go of Berner’s 25 yard line. The coaches quick decision was to try for a field goal. Mollo not only played an outstanding game both on the offensive and defensive lines, but the 35 yard field goal attempt he put up was good. Those, unfortunately were Lawrence’s last points of the game. Even though Cittadino, Mollo, Snyder, Holmes and Altman all played great defensive games along with Schiavone and Pecora who both had interceptions, the offense stuttered a little and the Golden Tornadoes had their first loss 12-3, in five games. Even more shattering than this loss was the first half injury to George Scott which sidelined him for the rest of the season. The next game was generally a poorly played one by Lawrence. Mollo, Koenig, Allende and Wallach played well on the offensive line which allowed for 14 completions in 28 attempts by Trotta for 175 yards and 10 for 51 running by Ben Stamile. Donny Stamile caught 5 passes for 61 yards, Altman 3 for 60 yards and Schiavone had 2 receptions for 14 yards. The defensive standouts were again Snyder and Mollo, who caused two fumbles and Cittadino with another great game. Lawrence’s loss in this game gave them a four and two record. The Golden Tornadoes traveled to Freeport Stadium for their next bout which was against the Red Devisl. Devils, offense and defense played a well balanced game and came up victorious. Trotta passed 19 times with six completions 2 of which went to Altman for 50 yards and another 2 that went to Don Stamile for 70 yards. Trotta also ran 7 times for 24 yards while Ben Stamile took the ball 11 times for 21 yards. The stars of the game on the offensive line were Mark Lorberbaum, Brad Koenig and of course Mike Mollo. It was another superb defensive game for Cittadino, who blocked a punt, Mollo who caused a fumble and had a quarterback sac, Ed Holmes who caused two fumbles and had 3 sacs, M. Butler who had a sac and caused a fumble, and Rich Altman who intercepted once. This game made Lawrence’s record 5 and 2, but the Golden Tornadoes next game was a loss to Farmingdale. (Ernest Johnson and Lee Owens, two fine runners were injured all season.) If not for a few leg injuries and other problems, Lawrence might have brought home a championship. However, the team demonstrated great effort and togetherness all season long and were a credit to Lawrence High School. Awards; All County-Mark Cittadino All Division-Ed Holmes, Mike Mollo, McKenzie Butler Honorable Mention-Rich Trotta GIRLS VOLLEYBALL With a dynamite coach like Alyce Bernstein, how could the volleyball team be anything but terrific? When asked to make a statement about the season, Coach Bernstein had this to say: It was the greatest feeling to see spectators at the girl’s volleyball games. It gave me the feeling that people were at last beginning to recognize girls as athletes.” The seniors graduating this year will be missed tremendously. They are: Iris Gilbert, Suzy Schneider, Judy Calabria, Denise Amoroso. CROSS COUNTRY TRACK The Cross Country team finished their season with a two win and six loss record. Despite the record, Bud Meredith did a great coaching job! The Cross Country squad consisted of Seniors Ken Reicherter, Eddie Bo-nano, Steve Fredericks, who was voted to an all-league second team selection, Juniors, Neil Levine, Willie Munoz, Mike Walsh, and Sophomores Steve Beck, and Mark Rowan. VARSITY BASKETBALL The Lawrence Varsity Basketball team had an exciting and successful season. This was credited to the great team spirit along with a fine coaching job by Mr. Fred Seger. Lawrence opened its season with six non-league games, winning four, losing two. When the official league games started, Lawrence was disappointed after losing the first two games to Wantaugh and Freeport. Then came the game against Massapequa, where Lawrence with fine performances by Bruce Freidberg, Steve Po-tolsky, George Scott, and Evan Stemashein, won its first victory. To even their record at two and two, Lawrence outclassed Hewlett by 21 points. The following game was a disappointing two point loss to Mepham, but the team did an about face, by winning the next seven regular season games by an average of Wi points per game. This made Lawrences’ league record an outstanding nine wins and three losses putting them on top of their division and putting them into the post season games. The first playoff game was against Baldwin at the Coliseum. Lawrence stayed in the game mainly due to the effort of George Scott. They won by a score of 56-55 in overtime. The Tornadoes went on to massacre Bellmore-Kennedy by 31 points in the second round of the playoffs, with outstanding performances by all the starters. The Lawrence Golden Tornadoes’ final game of a great season, came against Farmingdale. There were seven starters on the team this year. They were seniors Steve Potolsky, Ernest Johnson, Mitchell Waldrop, Eddie Stevens, Evan Stemschein, and juniors George Scott, and Bruce Freidberg who will both lead the team to another fine season next year. All seven are especially versatile, hardworking players. Also contributing this year were Mark Lebo and James O’Connor, juniors Barry Berger and Sonny Turner, and Sophomores Barry Henig and Mitchell Price. GYMNASTICS Rarely do we see as much talent on one team as there is on the Lawrence High School girl’s gymnastic team. Ms. Karen Zobro says: The team definitely has championship potential and the will to win.” The athletes on the team specialize in the uneven parallel bars, vaulting, the balance beam, and floor exercises. Graduating seniors: Diane Louard (captain), Fern Rubin, Tracey Baker, Anne-Marie Fodera, Wendy Josephson, and Swedish exchange student, Anna Karlson, Special thanks to Ms. Marie Craig, the assistant coach and Gina Ferrari, the official spotter. Let us not forget Suzy Schneider and Ms. Alyce Bernstein for keeping score at every meet. TENNIS The tennis team opened its season with high expectations which were achieved through outstanding individual and team efforts. The starting singles players were Mark Goldberg, Mitchell Schepps who has been playing for three years, Junior Robert Pinke, and Freshman Alan Fisner. The doubles players were Glenn Turett, Amy Rosenbaum, Brad Siegal, and Brad Lefcourt. Through regular season play, the team won eight of ten matches and both losses came to Hewlett. Lawrence’s final match was for the Nassau County Finals, where Great Neck North proved too much for the Lawrence team. Lawrence ended up second in Nassau County and looking forward to another successful season next year. CHEERLEADERS The cheerleaders this year were a most spirited and unified group of girls. At football games, our dynamite cheerleaders resounded with screams of Go Lawrence” and Oh, we had a little chicken ..Our winning football and basketball teams drew capacity crowds and I credit our cheerleaders, led by Tracey Baker, and keeping the Lawrence fans cheering and screaming. We’ll never forget the Tornadoes Mambo”, Action-Action”, and many other popular cheers. Also, many thanks to Denise Amoroso and L.B. for the traditional Chicken cheer.” BOWLING Both Varsity and Junior Varsity Bowling had excellent seasons this year. The coach Ms. Marie Craig had this to say about the team: I feel that the teams did very well in that all the girls had no previous experience in interscholastic bowling competition. I am delighted that most of them will back next year and 1 am very optimistic as to both teams finishing in with 12 wins and 18 losses, while the Junior Varsity finished in the league with 20 wins and 10 losses. Graduating seniors are Denise Raimondi, and Rose Clementelli. BADMINTON Coach Jill Calderone has this to say about her team this year: Badminton is really not a team sport, but an individual one. The girls this year were very hard-working and enthusiastic. Seniors graduating: Suzy Schneider, Janice Luckton, dreva, Robin Candreva, Gina Ferrari, Grace Fodera, Grace Feldchtein, Cathey Libbey, Eileen Page and Vickie Stein. GIRLS BASKETBALL Even though the record of the girls basketball was not as great as expected, playing on the team was a marvelous experience for each member. Serious meetings in the gym office, wild bus rides home from away games, a delicious meal in Rosedale, and much, much more will never be forgotten. I feel that no matter what the score turned out to be, J.V. and Varsity Basketball teams of 1975 both came out on top. With superior coach Jill Calderone, and a fantastic group of girls, the basketball teams were nothing short of winners. Graduating seniors: Gail Bialostock, Iris Gilbert, Robin Peppe, and Lisa Bernstein. GIRLS FALL TRACK This was an outstanding season for the girl’s fall track team. Because of their speed, skill, and cooperation, the girls from Lawrence finished their season ranking cmrM place in Nassau County. Graduating seniors and great assets to the team were: Michelle Gaines, Liz Kurshan, Gail Bialostok, and Anne-Marie Fodera. The team applauds Mr. Anthony Sparandara for his patience and excellence in coaching the team. I’m sure the senior girls will miss being part of the team, but most of all they will miss working with Mr. Sparandara. He’s quite a guy! VARSITY WRESTLING The Lawrence Varsity Wrestling team had a disappointing season and surprisingly so, considering they had some very talented wrestlers, and an outstanding coach and former All-State wrestler himself, Mr. Bud Meredith. Despite the losses there were some fine performances by Seniors Richie Zimmer, Bobby Detain, Tab Mak and Jack Barone, Junior Paul Ferrante and Sophomores Leon Delain and Hayden Schulman. Matmaids have been on the wrestling team for the past two years. They helped by helping score timings, setting up displays, bringing refreshments, and just being around to boost team morale. These girls were Denise Amoroso, Liz Candreva, Robin Candreva, Gina Ferrari, Grace Fodera, Grace Feldchtein, Cathey Libbey, Eileen Page and Vickie Stein. The Lawrence Grapplers and Coach Meredith look forward to a great season next year. KOOKY KANDIDS ■ NOT PICTURED DUE TO EARLY DEADLINES: BASEBALL TEAM PICTURE BOWLING GIRLS TENNIS INTRAMURAL J.V. We’re Moe, Larry and Curly! 213 Honor Speakers Andrew Silver, Valedictorian We are in our last days at Lawrence High School. On the surface, it has been an experience we have all shared in common. Yet it has been a very personal and unique time for each of us; one chat no two students could describe in similar ways. It has been a time of all work and no play for some, and of all play and no work for others. But for most of us, it has been a satisfying, if not totally happy, medium somewhere between the two. No doubt some very special aspect of the Lawrence experience will be remembered by each of us for the rest of our lives—a particular group of fellow students, a favorite teacher, or even something learned in class. Sadly many friends will part, perhaps forever, as these years at Lawrence end. But high school will be followed by the college experience, or the job experience, and later, perhaps by the family experience. Each of these is unique, and like the high school experience, will leave a permanent impression. And it is the sum of these experiences, both good and bad, exciting and commonplace, that gives true meaning to a person’s life. I’d rather be a sparrow than a snail. Yes I would, If I could.” If I could choose between being an adult or a child at this very moment I may choose to be an adult. To be an adult to me is an adventure— to be a sparrow, to soar, to be an adult. Yet later in life, after being an adult will it be too much to ask to be a child? The thin line between being grown up or being overgrown is what I gave to ponder. Yes, now I’d rather be a sparrow than a snail. But after the flight, can I come down to earth again and be a snail? If I could? Elaine Mandelbaum, Third Honor Speaker The thing that amazes me most about Lawrence High School is its diversity. Besides academics, the complementary activities and areas of pursuit available are practically infinite. One can become a sports jock, computer jock, power-hungry politician, businessperson, writer, actor, musician, member of the Back Hall of Fame, or any combination of the above. Pairing this smorgasboard with a limitless array of course offerings, no two students are ever restricted to the same high school experience. Danna Levy, Salutatorian John Marosy John Marosy-teacher and friend-is retiring on June 30,1975, from his position at Lawrence High School. Mr. Marosy has been a member of the faculty for twenty-three years-and during the past seven years has also been the director of Adult Education for the Lawrence Public Schools. Mr. Marosy, who was born in Romania, came to our community as a young man and was a graduate of Lawrence High School, Class of 1939. His contributions to education in this school district have been many and varied over the years. Intelligent, articulate, always a gentleman— always giving of himself-we will miss John Marosy’s presence-but wish him the best in retirement.” Edwin D. Krawitz Mr. Marosy, in my opinion, is synonymous to exactness, neatness, and dependability. An outstanding teacher and a very good friend. Arthur Alexander John Marosy, a man whose friendship and high standards have inspired his students and faculty friends for years.”-Edward Bolger Mr. Marosy is a true professional craftsman who will be missed by all. He has dedicated over twenty years toward the education of Lawrence High School students. As a builder of the Industrial Arts department, his guidance has led many students to become successful in the Industrial Arts field. We wish him well in future endeavors.”-Arthur Brown Mr. Marosy has a great deal of patience with us. We will miss him!”-Students 215 216 217 GOLD TEAM A. Fodera, R. Peppe, R. Trotta, P. Saldutti, L.
