111 HE SHY LITTLE MAN on the cover was a favorite w'ith fans of the silent screen, so we’ll let him introduce us. Don’t let him fool you though, he was about the only shy thing in the twenties. It was the era of the Charleston and Black-Bottom, Speakeasies and Eliot Ness, flappers and dandies. To us the twenties are a legend—devoid of the sticky problems of reality. It was the carefree age of razzmatazz and raccoon coats—the cat’s pajamas. We’re sure that just as did the twenties, in retrospect your high school years will lose most of their problems and provide some of your best memories. It is to preserve these memories that this book was published. We’ve tried to capture that happiness for you and express it through the shape of the Roaring Twenties. So remember, it’s your book. Look it over and have fun, or should we say, “23 skidoo and oh you kid!” [8]

Mr. Elliott Norwalk Mr. J. Gibson Fruin Mrs. Vardon Deixel Mr. Raymond S. Baron Mr. Ralph J. Edsell Mrs. Harold S. Rosenfeld Board of Education AS time grows short, and our years as part of Lawrence High School draw to a close, we gaze back fondly on memories of our high school years. Throughout these years, guiding and influencing our lives, the Board of Education has striven to develop in each Law-rencian a strong foundation of knowledge, skill, and character—the basis of our future lives— through learning. The Trustees of the Board of Education offered us the tools and building blocks for this foundation. We ourselves brought to our studies our minds, fresh and eager for knowledge, and they gave to us the expert faculty, the fine facilities, and the inspiration to pursue our education. Yet we learned not solely the prescribed courses, the words, the formulas and dates with which we passed examinations. We learned to think, to reason fairly and soundly, to approach work with a willing, open mind. All this we were taught, and did, we hope, learn. Straight ahead of us lies maturity and adulthood, certainly no world for the untaught. The Board of Education led and directed us through four years of study, to the threshold, to the gate of maturity. We are now ready to open the gate and walk through it proudly. Thus, in our four years at Lawrence, the Board has striven to teach us of life. We, the Class of 1964, take this opportunity to express our gratitude to the Trustees, and we vow to try to use, in our modern world, all that we have been taught. r 10 ]
