Mr. Kriz, Miss Corazza, Miss Hartman, Mr. Page. GUIDANCE DEPARTMENT ARK HOPKINS, the great educator, once related that the most eliective guidance he offered was at a time when he sat at one end of a log and his student at the other. No logs, to be sure, can be found in our Guidance Department, but among achievement records, college applications, personality records, college catalogs, change slips, requests for conferences, ringing telephones, students, parents, and a multitude of other indications of guidance activities, can be found our four busy counselors- Mr. Kriz, in charge of placement and counseling of boys in the vocational courses: Miss Hartman who counsels with Sophomore girls and all Freshmeng Mr. Page who works with Sophomore, Junior, and Senior boysg Miss Corazza who works with Junior and Senior girls.. For you, the members of the class of l956, the introduction to this Department came when four short years ago, you embarked upon a program arranged in conference with you while you were still in the eighth grade. Since that time, as we continued to plan with you, we attempted through tests and conferences to help you evaluate your abilities and interests, we tried to relate your assets to the requirements of the occupational and educational goal that lies beyond your graduation from Lawrence High School. We hope that Commencement will mark the beginning of a happy and constructive adult life for you, regardless of the area of your pursuits. We who have been so interested in your development will not soon lose interest in your future. Our very best wishes to you, and with them we offer for your thoughts, these verses of Jessie Rittenhouse: I bargained with Life for a penny And Life would pay no more, However, I begged at evening When I counted my scanty store. For Life is a iust employer, He gives you what you ask, But once you have set the wages, Why you must bear the task. I worked for a menial's hire, Only to learn dismayed That any wages I had asked of Life, Life would have paid. ll
