FOREWORD ft is repetitious to say that modern methods ol transportation and communication have made our world a small one. But it is the truth. Since the world is now a small one, we might just as well become acquainted with some ol the aspects ol it. We have chosen education as. a worthwhile aspect to consider. Why? Because education is the source ol the understanding and the enlightenment that forms the germ cell Irom which a spirit ol peace and construc-liveness may develop in contrast with the spirit of conflict and destructiveness which now seems to hover over our world. e have an interesting curriculum here at Lawrence. I he study ol the history and ol the present day lile of the nations about us forms an integral part ol it. Of what, then, do the curriculurns of the educational institutions in other countries consist? We hardly intend to answer that question. I hat would necessitate some sixty yearbooks. We will, however, throughout this book, make small comparisons in regard to the studies, activities, athletics, and school life ol foreign schools. 1 he reader will not find many comparisons, our primary purpose is still to review the school year of 1947-1948 at Lawrence. Our sub-purpose is to make the reader think, think about, and investigate, the globe be dwells on. Internationalism is then our theme. 1 his seems especially lilting here at Lawrence where we have a student body that represents a multitude of national, religious, and racial backgrounds.
