CLASS OF '48 SENIOR EXECUTIVES AT WORK R. Kass. President: I. Vairo. treasurer; Mr. King. Faculty .Adviser: M. Vairo. Secretary: J. Pressey. Vice-President. ON a warm September morning in 1944 a bewildered group of fresbmen entered Lawrence High. Armed with books, pencils and an overabundance of erasers ibis gallant crew quickly overcame such obstacles as four floors, swimming pools and up and down stairways. Starting tbeir first year off with a bang they elected Ray DeSi-bio president. Fiore Sorrentino. vice-president. Joe Breakstone, secretary. Jane Breakstone. treasurer and Mrs. Lee as faculty adviser. 1 hrilled by the novelty of seeing tbeir names in the Mental Pabul um, bearing those wonderful chorus concerts and bragging about I heir winning football team, our fresh men went through this year filled with pride of I ,a wrence. 1 he fighting 48 launched tbeir second year with vim and vigor. 1 bey elected George Tavalaro, president. Ray DeSibio. vice-president. Marie Vairo secretary and Carol Werner treasurer, with Mr. Simmonds as faculty advisor. Clubs became I he rage and many future Barrymores, presidents, lecturers. and dress designers showed their talents in such clubs as the Buskins. Forum, Sub Debs, Math and l tin. The third year found the class armed with an upperclassmen air and an energetic spirit. I his time led by Herbert Epstein, president. Sieve Michaelman vice-president. Marie Vairo secretary. Margie North treasurer with Mr. Kogel as adviser they began to show what they could do. Besides laughing at Mr. Simmonds jokes, practicing for the great gym exhibition, cheering for a touchdown, and marveling at the wonderful Christmas program. they also found time to order tbeir senior jewelry, and prepare for tbeir last year. Although faced with the age old problem of spring fever, our Juniors were able to present the most successful Junior prom in the history of Lawrence High. As June 1948 slowly brings these years to a close, they stand proudly bearing the title of seniors and reminiscing over this, tbeir last year at Lawrence. They II never forget the wonderful work of their officers. Rudy Kass. president; Joanne Pressey. vice-president. Marie Vairo, secretary; 1 erry Vairo. treasurer; and Mr. King, adviser. Also remaining in their minds will be the smells of the chemistry lab. the secrecy of the girls home nursing course. the day pictures for the Lawrencian were taken and everyone suddenly became an ardent member of some club. The beauty of Rock Hall in the spring, the excitement of night football and baseball games. the thrill of wearing the senior jewelry and senior hats will also not soon be forgotten. Especially, will they remember the exciting senior play, senior day where many a freshman knew more than they did. and tbeir prom where many a tear was shed. As they stand, with diploma in band. they look back over their days in Lawrence—days in which they had a ' dam good time.” 16
