Semor Class H1story EY get off those steps before we throw you off' so began our three yetrs trek through Lawrence Hlgh The senrors con tmued to haze us unt1l In1t1at1on was over md we finally settled down to the long grrnd But tt wasnt all work we contrxbuted to the team such rugged football players as Bob Betts Merry Palmer Babe Soares Howre Prerce ohn Frras Dlck Baker Norrls Eastmtn and ohn Monrz No one could control hrs CXLIIC ment when we beat our greatest rrval Barn stable We all remember the argumentatron and confusnon whrch resulted from the plans for the annual Bean Supper Frnally rt was produced however with Johnny Pesky and Ed dre Pellagrlnr two well known major league baseball players as guest speakers accompanred by the rattle and bang of drrty dlshes In early sprmg we turned nautlcal by commg up wrth the Idea of holdrng a Shrpwreck Dance Every one enjoyed hrmself tn the mformal atmosphere of lobster pots and fish nets Our last thought last cured of our Sophomore 1t1s The followxng September we entered LHS wrth more ease and assurance for now we were unlors Durrng football season many of us arose early to make coffee to sell and then by game trme trled to make the sugar cubes d1s solve rn the cold coffee Our first socral function took place durrng the holrday season In the sprrrt of Chrrstmas we held a Sarnt Nrcks Hop whlch was a suc cess not only for the good food and music but also for the umque decoratnons Next on the socral agenda came the Quahog Supper In true Cape Cod style we planned a menu whlch featured a typrcal quahog chowder and fresh homemade pres Never say dre ought to be our motto as bhzzards and a lack of spoons and bowls caused us to postpone thrs project several trmes Then came our dnsapporntment over our flat and heavy Cake Sale Besrdes all thrs we select ed and purchased our class rrngs We were the first class to buy a new type of rrng whrch was bemg mtroduced to hrgh schools for the flrst trme Though we added new players to the boys teams we also mcluded Betty Correllus Shella Phrlbrrck Natahe Radclrffe Marcra Maxrm and Mary Lou McCoy who was elected Cap tam for the followrng year ln the glrls basket ball team Then as the end of the year drew nrgh we once agarn held a Shrpwreck Dance whlch was now becommg a trrdrtnon wth our class Thrs one proved to be even more successful thln that of the prevrous year Several members of our class were added to the ranks of the Natronal Honor Society whlle Nate Beale and Norris Eastman Glnny ewel and Nttalle Radcliffe attended Boys and Grrls State respectnvely As a last act we elected our class officers for our most xmportant year They were Norrrs Eastman presrdent Nate Belle vrce president Mary Lou McCoy secretary Sherla Phrlbrrck treasurer Oh the joy of returning to school and berng Senxors at last' We now occupred the mam room used the front door and took on that feehng of superrorrty Thrs was our year' How about the Sophomore Imtratron now the tables were turned and we put our ev1l mrnds to work quretly and came up wrth some treach erous thought for the unsuspectrng Sophs To the football team we contrnbuted Co captams Drck Baker and George Soares We the most outstandrng member of the squad and George was chosen the most valuable player Along wrth thrs the playmg held was dedrcated to Gov Fuller who was retrrmg after many long years as coach and rnstructor at our school Our class pnctures taken we were led rnto basketball season On the court thrs year Ken Dahl George Lopes Nate Beale Bob Lopes Arthur Hampton Ted Fonseca Don Schnerder and Captarn Norrrs Eastman Addrng pep were the semor cheerleaders the majorettes and the members of the band Durrng the year the Travel Club held manv dances card parties and food sales to rarse money for the annual Washrngton Trrp The class rtself also was successful rn money makmg projects Agam the annual Shrpwreck Dance was held but not untnl the matter of who should grve rt the unrors or the Senrors was settled After careful thought and consrder atron on the part of the Student Councrl the rrght to grve ll was awarded to the Senrors Speakrng of the Student Councrl Marcra Max rm Bunny Robertson Norrrs Eastman Marlon Burchell jrm Doukas and Nate Beale who was rts Presrdent were our representatrves Our Class Play Mother If a Frerbman was a hrlarnous success The actors the usherettes the prop the make up and all of the other com mrttees worked hard together to make rt a real ly worth whrle project fContmuer7 on Page 39D I I UII , ' 1 ' ' f' A . 1 . . .
