FORWORD For the Class of 1958 this has been the last year of free schooling in the Fairfield school system. Most of the members have become especially attached to old Lawrence High. Many things of note have happened since they entered. For the first time in its history the Lawrence football squad defeated Waterville High. The spirit of the whole town of Fairfield was at a high peak just after this history-making game. Our prowess did not stop there. We went on to enter the Eastern Maine Basketball Tourna- ments after having a very good season. Although we did not enter the finals, we did capture the Good Sportsmanship Banner for the year. Our baseball team has also had exceptionally good luck these past four years. lt has had two especially good seasons winning the Kennebec Valley Title in 1957. Track and cross country have recently, under the expert guidance of Coach David Marshall, attained unprecedented heights. Some of the boys have paprticipated with honors in the State and the New England meets. Our scholastic activities, debating and prize speaking, have been very successful. Some of our debators have won prizes in the Bates and the Maine League. ln 1957 Mary Grow was first in the state in the Na- tional French Contest. Bob Viles, in that same year, won a Union Carbide Sch-olarship to Bates College. Many other of Lawrence High's graduates have done excellent work in the college of their choice. At last the time that all high school students eagerly await is here. Graduation is just around the corner. But as the Class of '58 looks back on its past four years, it will realize that time has passed with amazing speed. So in parting, let the Class remember that it has spent four of the happiest years of its life here and that in saying good bye to Lawrence, the Class is ready to begin a new period in life.
