The dance feafured fhe Maypole. A woodland scene wifh ifs finy pool, animals, and frees made a picfuresque foreground. In fhe cenfer of fhe dance floor sfood a gianf, whife birch pole wifh a small nafural garden af ifs base. Sfreamers hung from fhe fop of 'Ihe maypole fo fhe walls, making a mulfi-colored canopy overhead. A smaller maypole on fhe sfage furnished fhe baclrground for fhe orchesfra. Around fhree sides of fhe floor were a hundred card fables wifh whife coverings and min- iafure maypoles as cenferpieces. Each fable had handpainfed placecards and green and yellow programs wifh finy silver pencils affached. Fancy nufcups and napkins complefed fhe fable decora- fions. The pleasing fempo and popular selecfions of fhe Giroux Rhyfhmeers apppealed fo sfudenfs, feachers, and guesfs, and puf everyone in a dancing mood. The many hours spenf in preparafion for fhis gala affair were rewarding, for fhe Junior-Sen- ior Prom of I954 was one of fhe mosf beaufiful fhaf Lawrence High School has ever had.
