SENIOR CL XSS On Monday mormng of September 10th we met agam as a class It dld not seem possible to us that vacatlon had gone so qulckly and that ut were returmng to Law rence hlgh as semors After a few days we were sorry to learn that many of our classmates had not returned wlth us Now as senxors we number twenty sxx The whole class extends lts welcome to MISS Eva Ames who lS a new member of our class She came to us a few weeks ago from Parxshvllle INew York We elected class offlcers at our first class meetlng Of course Chapman Goodwm was re elected presldent Carl Ackley elected vlce presldent DOTIS Ham was re elected secretary Murlel Pooler treasurer Ethel Bragg and Clalr Cotta members of the student council Kenneth Totman audltor and once agam Mxss Pxllsbury was re elected our class advxsor There are elght members of our class takmg the commerclal course fourteen tak mg the sclentxfic course whlle four are taklng the classlcal course A masquerade soclal was gxven by the class m our school gymnaslum The first thmg on the program was the grand march and clrcle At thxs time the prlzes were awarded to the four havmg the best costumes and the two havmg the fun nxest costumes Flrst prlze was awarded to Florence York second to Agnes Gllbert thlrd to Gall Hassen and fourth to Stuart Robertson Page Four The first prlze for the funmest costume was awarded to Murlel Pooler and the second to Gerald Ferland The Judges were Mrs Bry ant Mrs Curtxs and Mr Henderson We were then taken by SUTPFISC when we saw a processlon comlng down the stalrs It was a mock weddlng glven by the mem bers of the faculty Thxs proved to be very mterestmg to every one present A short entertalnment followed the mock weddmg It was given by Chapman Good wm and Kenneth Totman They were masked to represent colored men The last number was a clog dance glven by Arthur Goodwm accompanled by Frederlck Gowell and Cllnton Smlth who played harmomcas At one end of the gym stood a fortune tellmg booth ThlS proved to be the busiest place of the evenlng Candy popcorn and peanuts were sold Games were enJoyed by everyone The mu s1c was furmshed by the school orchestra Much credlt for the success of thls event IS due to Florence York and the members of her commlttee whlch mcluded evexv member of the semor class Li We wxsh to thank the class of 19 for ltS loyalty to the school Thls was shown by the glft of lts class money wh1ch was used for the purchase of a vlctrola thus fillmg a great need ln the ty pewrltmg and Engllsh departments The glft has been appreclated very much L..i GAVEL CLUB L- The Gavel Club has been re organlzed thls year with the followlng offlcers Pres ldent Chapman Goodwm VICE presldent Ethel Bragg secretary Doris Ham treas urer Cormne Belanger llbrary commlttee Helen Cralg Carl Ackley and Moody Flmt Several meetlngs have been held and m terestmg programs carrled out The club has purchased several educatlon al records for the school vxctrola, to be used ln connectxon w1th the study of the classxcs and IS othelwxse provmg to be a very useful orgamzatlon 1 ' , - ' , . , . . , - 1 . - A z . , . . THE LAWRENCE LYRE w1th students, parents and frlends The freshmen were dxstmgulshed from the other students durmg the evenmg bv a tag Thls tag was made 1n a dunce cap shape of green paper wlth 32 1n brlght red on the tag The tags were put on the freshmen before the program began Flrst the freshmen were taken down the recelvlng l1ne whlch conslsted of the mem bers of the school board the school faculty and the presldents of the four classes The stunts came next and they proved to be lnterestlng to every one present They were performed by the freshmen and we must say they took thexr parts well and proved to be very good sports Flrst was a baby carrlage rlde glven to Stuart Rob ertson by Helen Woodman A roller skate stunt was performed by Harvey Cotta Then there were several races two of whlch were the cracker and the potato races A number of the freshmen took part ln these Everybody enJoyed thls short pro Games were enjoyed after the stunts Muslc was furnished by part of our school orchestra Durmg mtermxsslon refresh ments were served by the sophomore class At a late hour everyone started for home and each was saymg that he had enjoyed the evenlng very much The senlors were ln charge of this event and wlth the ald of the sophomore and Jumor classes It proved to be very success ful Much of the credlt IS due Ruth Odlln and the members of her commlttee Helen Cralg Florence York Laura Maxwell Eve lyn Wyman Carl Ackley, and Chester Bas ford L..T FRESHMAN CL ASS L..
