Our soccer team could not have provided us with such an exciting season without the leadership of captains Liberato Francisco and Santiago Oleas and of course, coach Ron Prada. They finished the season with a 3-6-7 record, but in our eyes, these are meaningless statistics for we, the students of L.H.S., feel that the team’s pride and deter¬ mination equal an undefeated season. Steve gets a kick out of the game. Coach Ron Prada with co-captains Liberato Francisco and Santiago Oleas. The matmen were led by co-captains, Peter Allain, Joe DiZazzo, Neil Driscoll, and David Silva to an eleventh- straight, winning season. This was made possible through the efforts of the team and the supervision of coaches, Bob Fitzgerald and A1 Matthews. Throughout the season, the wrestlers were treated with T.L.C. as a new attraction was added to the scene — mat maids. Because of the team’s hard work and many victories, several of the boys competed in the state sectionals. What more can be said about a team which not only strives for victory, but constantly achieves this goal as well. Led by co-captains Mary Ardito and Karen Giribaldi, the team finished fifth in the league standings. The girls worked hard, and their improvement was outstanding as demonstrated in their impressive game with the first place team. They held Wilmington to a scoreless tie. Ms. Matthews coached the varsity team which had three girls elected to the Merrimack Valley All Conference Team. Mary Ardito, Ann Callagy, and Val Simmons made a first in the history of L.H.S. girls sports by attaining this honor. Coach Kelleher provided the team with strong leadership and intense determination. The valiant footballers tackled, blocked, passed, and ran under the most horrid conditions and still managed to emerge with a respectable 3-7 record. Speedster, Mike Delaney and super athlete, Steve Clif¬ ton received recognition by being named to the Lawrence Eagle Tribune All Star Team. Delaney was also named to the M.C.V. All Stars. They spent endless hours of practice preparing for the football games. Even though the weather was often cold, wet or snowy, the girls’ spirit and enthusiasm was still alive. The squad also took part in the traditional parades and this year had the privilege of leading the Homecoming „ Day procession. Basketball is also on the girls’ schedule, and the ladies cheered the team onto many victories. The girls used all of their energy and pep to do mounts and splits and also to welcome the visiting cheerleaders. With the team going to the tech, the girls had the opportunity to work overtime as well. The cheerleaders set up an all time first for the M.V.C. this yea r. They hosted a competition at the Kane School and conjured up some original cheers to get things started. The girls hope the competition can become an annual af¬ fair. BOYS’ BASKETBALL With the continued fine coaching of John Kelleher and the return of five outstanding veterans, the L.H.S. basket¬ ball team made its way to the tech for the second year in a row. Our tri-captains, Chet Cousins, Bobby Gereau, and Eddie Romano boosted the morale of the team and suc¬ ceeded in keeping the momentum of the ballclub in tip-top shape throughout the season. Our intra-city rival, Central Catholic, proved to be no threat at all, as we crushed them at home and away. No Lancer fan will ever forget the thrill of both the Andover and Chelmsford games.. Team sports, by their very nature, generate enthusiasium among team members and observers as well. The cross country runner must energize himself without the help of an audience or a coach’s direc¬ tion. After a two year absence, the L.H.S. cross country team was re-introduced to the Merrimack Valley Confer¬ ence by Coach George Pacheco. Under these circum¬ stances, the team members represented their school with pride and dedication. Coach Glenn Alsup and Assistant Coach George Pacheco provided the boys with a great deal of leadership and encouragement. The team spirit kept the squad going even though they weren’t in the winning bracket. L.H.S. is proud of the outstanding individual performances given by some of the team members. After the regular season, the team went on to win trophies, ribbons and medals. The M.V.C. finals proved to be a success with the outstanding efforts of co¬ captains, Ray Tremblay and Mike Delaney. This incredible duo also set records in the high jump and 50 yard dash respectively. We wish these performers and the entire track team continued success in their future endeavors. VICTORY DANCE The acquaintances were affectionate .. The entertainment was excellent . . . On the evening of December 5, 1975, the L.H.S. football players were congratulated for a job well-done. The cheer¬ leaders, headed by Joanne Lydon, sponsored a Victory Dance. It was held at the Stopyra Post between the hours of 6:30 and 12:00. A buffet was served, and the entertainment was provided by the one and only Roger Kirk, D.J. The Victory Dance meant many different things to the people who attended. For the seniors, it was a way of bidding farewell to high school football. What a wonderful time it was! m 140 Footballers, fans and friends, everyone was there! The dancing was delightful ... The selection was superb .. 142 Work should be done with a smile! 143 The Queen and her court relaxing. Our Queen, Mary Facella. Patty Fallisi, Angela Gervasi, Mary Facella, Jayne Avalone, and Kathy Viens. This year the Student Council and the Boosters Club added a long forgotten attraction to L.H.S. — Homecom¬ ing Week. On November 15, 1975, Lawrence met Methuen on the football field, but on this occasion more than big, strong players were to be seen. Five of Lawrence High School’s lovelies were presented to the public. Each of these girls was chosen by her classmates to repre¬ sent. her class. The freshmen chose Patty Fallisi, while Kathy Viens was selected by the sophmores. The junior class chose Jayne Avallone, and Angela Gervasi was voted in by the senior class. The Class of ’76 also chose a Queen. Mary Facella was honored with the crown. It was great excitement having the Queen and her attendants at the game and lots of fun for all. The processional was a proud one. HOMECOMING WEEK The second annual Spirit Week was held this year at L.H.S. Everyone knows that the Lowell — Lawrence football game on Thanksgiving Day is a big one, so the Student Council planned the week before to be a spirited one in order to get everyone psyched for the game. Each class was assigned a floor, and everyone decorated in honor of the Big game. The faculty selected the best all-around floor, and the Stu¬ dent Council chose the best individual poster. Each category involved a trophy. This year, Kim Blanchette, Class of ’76, won the best poster trophy, and the Class of ’77 was selected as the most spirited. The entire school truly reflected the Spirit of ’76. We competed for top prize! SPIRIT WEEK Spirit and pride .. . . . . lead to admiration! 145 IN THE SHOPS Action in the shops on the first floor never stops. People can be found hard at work on all sorts of machinery. The students are always involved, learn¬ ing about the important things that keep us ahead in technology. The students who are being instructed in these shops will one day be the hard-working people of our country. We need these people, and their ef¬ forts are appreciated. Working with the new machinery at LHS. A future TV repairman. A diligent worker on his own. 146 COMMUNICATION In our school, communication plays a very important role in learning. Music, poems, stories and thoughts are all different modes of imparting knowledge. Telephones, announcements, posters, bulletin boards, and tape re¬ corders all aid in bridging the “communication gap.” Now these help us to learn. Later they will help us to live. Soul Talk “Name that tune!” “And now for the news ... 147 CAFETERIA SCENES Our school day lasts from 8:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. The way that we rush around and work, work, work, there’s nothing like a lunch break. The cafeteria provides us with a good square meal, snacks and a place to sit and talk with friends. The Cafe, with all it’s noise, hustle and bustle and crowded lines, will always remain in our memories as a very unique experience. Get together with friends in the schoolyard. Open up, it’s good for you! An apple a day! id EDUCATION She’s on her way to the top} The foundation of life is education and education is found at LHS. Whether it be studying, speaking, testing, questioning, or experimenting, all are included in our education here. Some of us will continue our education after we leave, and others will enter into other areas, but whatever we do, our experience at Lawrence High will have prepared us adequately for our chosen fields. Could you please repeat that remark?! A sure success! 149 You must create what you feel! CREATIVITY LHS is known for many things, and one of them is the artistic ability of its students. The students in the Art Department strive to express their feelings through creative means. Murals done by stu¬ dents decorate the walls of LHS, each expressing a thought or mean¬ ing. This being the Bicentennial year, even more was added to the scene. The students in the History Department depicted events and figures of historical significance in paintings and collages. Not only do these works add to the decor of the building, but they express the pride which LHS students have for their country. 150 VILL 5IUDYAND PREPARE MYSELF The Artist paints the picture ... josif cm J h NICE MVJD mm my IRIIf CARL SHAWN k EWDY BRUCE MAAECY MA f SI£ DOWA A DEB GINM 17 TE KATHY Hi Ihl ' iMt LS Jin i Ovt UAl Keep 05 TO G ATHER, 6 £A. - Den ' 5c-G ' 7fo Q O ' ”. In the Army you can learn a valuable Technical Skill and Finish up to two years of College in three years. The Army has over 300 different Jobs to Choose from. Your choice IS Guaranteed to YOU in writing. Starting pay of $361.20 per month with a raise of $402.60 in just four months. COLLEGE EDUCATION — PROJECT AHEAD: Project Ahead is the most exciting idea of Education that the Army has ever offered. TOO often people in the services have taken college courses from one school, only to learn later that those courses would not apply toward their degrees. Project Ahead intends to change all that. The Army, together with over 800 colleges and universities, has a plan. A COOPERATIVE SYSTEM that lets you know ahead of time which courses YOU’LL need for credit at the school you’ve applied to and want to graduate from. PROJECT AHEAD IS BY NO MEANS A FREE RIDE. Because while you’re working toward a college degree, you’ll be serving your country. You’ll be receiving up to 75% of the tuition for college courses you take, and now you can make sure you get credit for the courses you successfully complete.
