A wise old man once described the Lancer as a champion of righteousness, living in a world of iniquity. Throughout the years, the Lancer has become the symbol of all that is good, noble, and just. He personifies courage, fidelity, and honor—the most revered qualities of humanity. Since 1957, the name of all Lawrence High athletic teams has been the Lancers.” This is an appropriate name for them, because they do typify the Lancer spirit with their gallant efforts and accomplishments. However, it would be an injustice to refer only to the athletes of our school as Lancers. The spirit of the Lancer burns brightly in the hearts of all who attend Lawrence High School. He lives in the souls of all who have ever lived briefly inside the yellow walls of brick. The Lancer of Lawrence High is many people. He is the football player charging down the field, and the valedictorian making his address. He is the spectator who loses his voice while cheering for a victory, and the student who completes his assignments. He is the noble and the humble, the strong and the weak, the great and the small. He is the person who has gained maturity and knowledge because of his experiences here. He is the person in whom Lawrence High School may take pride. The Lancer as we conceive him, is on the front cover of this book. He is charging ahead with his shield held high, prepared to face the unknown. This is what we must also do, for we are the Lancers. His courage is our courage, his fidelity is our fidelity, and his honor is our honor. It is to this Lancer and his principles that we dedicate this book, and it is our most sincere hope that we shall always be worthy of the title Lancer. jr it l $jp|. Hr Mr I : ■ 1 43W. i 8 mats
