Lieutenant Hanson, The Command Is Forward! See The Boys Through!” Such were the immortal words of Captain Francis M. Leahy of Lawrence, the leader of Company F of the 101st Infantry, as he lay dying in La Fere Woods, out¬ side Epieds, France on July 21, 1918. The inspiring utterance of this World War I hero serves as the basis of the theme for the 1959 Lawrence High School Senior Classbook. Today, forty years later, the command is still forward for the youth of America. It is the duty of the high school to see the boys and the girls through the difficulties of the teenage period, so that they may realize their heritage in the era that lies ahead. This classbook tells how Lawrence High School aims to prepare its students to go forward. Located 25 miles north of Boston, and 25 miles inland from the Atlantic Ocean, Lawrence is a city of 75,000 people. Its public high school has an enrolment of 2300, and employs 85 teachers. A four-year course is offered in the college preparatory, nursing, commercial, general, home economics and manual arts divisions. About one-fourth of the graduates continue their education to schools of higher classification. 7
