Down 7-0 early in the game, the Devils moved 99 yards in three plays with the TD coming on a 86 yard pass play. From this point on, the Devils held the momentum through the remainder of the first half as big scoring plays gave Moulton a 21-7 half lime lead. In the third quarter neither team was able to score but early in the fourth quarter, Austin scored a TD and a two-point conversion to make the score 21-15. Keeping their cool, the Dev- ils scored once more to ice the game and give the Red Devils a big opening game victory. 88 Richard Aydt E 50 Soph. - 1 yr. Letterman 86 Teddy Wallace E Soph. - 1 yr. Rogers in a game that had been postponed from Friday to Saturday night because of heavy rain. Although it didn ' t rain during the game, the field was still extremely muddy as the Red Devils ground out 23 points while Rogers managed to score only six. Holding a 3-0 lead at halftime, the Devils quickly began to cushion their lead with two third period touchdowns and then the Pirates broke a kickoff for 97 yards. Scoring an insurance TD in the fourth quarter, the Red Devils showed their dominance as they scored In every quaner but the first and had fourteen first dowtis to Rogers ' four. 51 DEFENSE KEYS WIN OVER FAIRVIEW In a hard fought contest the Red Devils were able to preserve an early TD and 2-poini conver- sion to overcome the efforts of an extremely stub- born Fairview team. Leading by a score of 8-0 at halftime, the Red Devils were held scoreless in the second half while the Aggies scored one TD. The difference in the contest was an Aggie pass for a two point conversion that fell short following iheir third quarter TD. The Red Devil defense rose to the occasion and slopped Fairview three times inside their own 20 yard line, the last time hold- ing Fairview on the Moulton 15 with less than a minute left in the game. The final score was 8-6 as the Red Devils boosted their record to a perfect 3-0. STRONG HALEYVILLE GIVES RED DEVILS FIRST DEFEAT The Moulton Red Devils suffered their first defeat of the 75 season at the hands of a strong Haleyville team. In the first quarter the Red Devils ' hope for victory looked good as they took the opening kickoff and drove from their own 35 yard line to the Haleyville 8 where they were able to get three points on a 25 yard field goal. The Red Devil lead was short lived as the Haleyville Lions dominated play in the sec- ond and third quarters accumulating a 20-3 lead with only one period remaining. In the final stanza the Red Devil offense was able to generate two TD drives while Haleyville scored once more to make the final score 28-17 and give Moulton a 3-1 record. Enjoying an excellent show at halftime still didn ' t make the Devils content as they quickly scored another TD and field goal, before Brewer scored a TD late in the fourth quarter. The Bearcats entered the contest with a 3-0 record in Area 14 and had already clinched a berth in the state 3A playoffs because the Devils were ineligible. Cullman seemed worthy of their playoff benh when they received the opening kickoff and moved to the Mouhon 15 before giving up the ball. From this point on, however, the Devils began to prove that L.C.H.S. deserved to represent Area 14 in the playoffs as they drove 85 yards in only five plays to lead 7-0. Cullman equaled the Devils ' [ally by scoring a TD and extra point as the half ended at 7-7. Almost the entire second half was played in Cullman tenitory as the Devils threatened twice before scoring the win- ning TD with approximately three minutes remaining in the game. The Moulton defsense then went in to hold the Bearcats on their own 41 to preserve a 14-7 Red Devil win. Moulton had 245 total yards while Cullman could man- age but 177 total yards. 15 Chris Bain QB Sophomore - 1 yr. Leiterman 12 Clint Thompson E Senior - 1 yr. Letterman 11 Gwyn Morgan E Senior - 2 yr. Letterman STORYBOOK GAME GIVES DEVILS BEST RECORD SINCE 1950 In one of the hardest fought battles of the 1975 gridiron season, the Red Devils reeled off a clutch 79 yard scoring drive in the closing minutes to turn back the Hanceville Bulldogs, the final score reading 21- 18. The spectators as well as the players and coaches were filled with enthusiasm knowing that their respective teams sported two of the best 3-A records in North Alabama, the Devils coming into the game with an 8-1 slate, and Hanceville a 7-2 record. The Red Devils lit the scoreboard first as they scored a TD on their second possession. Behind 7-0, Hance- ville quickly closed the gap to 7-6 on a TD and missed PAT, the first half ending minutes later. Late in the third quarter, the Red Devils put together an impressive drive of 72 yards to up their lead to 14-6. However, the Bulldogs came alive in the fourth quarter as they scored two to uchdowns and with 4:52 showing on the scoreboard clock, led for the first time, 18-14. The Red Devils took the ensuing kick- off and started their dramatic, heart -stopping march against the fired-up Bulldogs. Since Hanceville ' s stubborn defense denied ground attack, the Devils went to the airways. After reaching the Bulldogs ' 38 yard line, things got tough as three incomplete passes brought on 4th and 10, but the Devils didn ' t panic and completed a pass for 14 yards to keep the drive alive. With time running out, two more pass completions gave the Red Devils the game winning six-pointer with only 28 seconds left in the game to end the spectacular season in storybook fashion. The never-say-die Red Devils displayed great determination and character as they reached their early season goals of being the best team in their region and having the best season record at LCHS since 1950. Although Moulton was ineligible for the post-season playoffs, the Red Devils still proved undisputedly that they were the best team in their region, ineligibility the only obstacle between them and the playoffs. 10 David McKclvcy QB Senior - 3 yr.
