The seniors are leaving the school with a deep appreciation of the friendly attitude and help given by the faculty during the past four y'ears. There are few changes in the faculty from year to year. This seems to indicate that the teachers like the pupils and do not want to leave. Eight of the teachers have been members of the faculty since the school was opened in 1941. Mr. Keesling is completing his eighth year as principal. He is a capable admin- istrator and the seniors wish him many more happy, successful years in his present position. So the seniors say thanks to all for everything! l 7390 13 DONALD K. STEELE Don Class Pres. 3.4: Hi-Y 3, 4: FBLA 3: Band l, 2. 3: Swing Band l, 2: Baseball 1, 2, 3, 4: Basketball 3, 4: Golf 3, 4. A t ,if It was in the fall of l946 that Central opened its doors to this year's senior class, a group of one hundred eighth graders waiting to prove their worthiness to the world. They upset tradition fight- ing for what they could get or give their school. Under the leadership of their presidents: Milan Yager, fresh- man: Robert Pugh, sophomore: Don Steele, junior and senior, they acquired several things of which they forever will be proud. They will be remembered by their Prom, new boy yell leaders, their Sweetheart Ball, and being the largest graduating class. Their spirit stands for their old alma mater . . . for the year of '5l. gmt , . .,,. '-tx. How could we forget? All the things that add up to a memorable year at Lawrence Central. All the incidents, whether especially gay, or especially sad, or especially exciting, leaving an impression on young minds and hearts. The dances, the parties, all the little get-togethersu and happy times we've enjoyed. All this can be summed up in one word activities, a common word around any busy high school. Remember last year's prom? . . . the dream-like, perfect night, never to be forgotten. And graduation-there are too many emotions about a graduation to attempt to put down in words, but there's just something special about it . . . the Sadie Hawkins dance, an evening of informal fun and hilarity . . . of course the football games in the crisp fall air, the suffocating suspense of a close basketball game, the class leagues, girls' and boys' . . . the Calico Hop, an old-fashioned hoe-down, noisy and gay- Swing Your Partner! . . . the Sweetheart Ball, a huge Success, My dear, just everybody was there! . . . of course the Xmas Dance with that special holiday feeling . . . the com' bined Hi-Y and Tri-Hi-Y party, the highlight being, of course, the basketball game-loads of laughs and fun .... There are many more things to remember and perhaps to laugh or cry over, but it can all be summed up in three little words- fun for '5l ! PROM The 1950 Prom was certainly a triumph for the Junior Class. It took place on the balmy summer evening of May 3rd at the Indianapolis Athletic Club, where a delicious dinner was served at eight o'clock, preceding three heavenly hours of danc- ing to the sweet refrains of joe Zaney and his orchestra. The highlight of the evening was the crowning of Janet Wilcox as prom queen. She and her colorful retinue advanced to the throne, where she was crowned by Carroll Bragdon, vice presi- dent of the Senior Class. Miss Wilcox's court con- sisted of joey Nickell, Norma Schmidt, jolitta Smith, and Ann Cain. The memories of this wonderful evening will long remain after these pages turn yellow with age. Baugh, Everett Groves. l n a 39 - 37101114 The 1950-51 sports year at Central got off to a flying start with the cross country squad capturing the county crown. As the football season ended, the Bears were the Capital Dis- trict Champions for the second straight year. Wrestling, something new at Central, Filled many spare hours for many boys throughout the winter months. Coach Bruce led the Bears to the Hnal game of the county tourney, after a successful season. In the spring season, track and baseball shared the spotlight, with golf as an up and coming sport at Central. The cinclermen claimed a good record and produced a sectional winner in the shot-put. Future years in baseball looked bright as Coach Paden's roster indicated a growing number of under-classmen. Boys and girls competed in volleyball and baseball, but basket- ball led the way. Class league teams gave the boys and girls of LC the opportunity to compete in basketball games through the regular season. These games were watched by both girls and boys with much interest and enthusiasm. The Juniors placed a close second, but the Seniors came out on top. if-A - W '5' iw . We hope you enjoy your annual as much as we'z1e enjoyed bringing it to you. The hard back covers are a new feature in the LC annuals. We hope you like them, too. An inexperienced staff got of to a slow start. Then along came the mump epidemic, and our co-editor, jerry Lyst, was co-editing from bed for three weeks. With the actual task of putting out a year book was combined the job of getting out our bi-weekly school paper, The Cub Reporter. As the deadline drew nearer and nearer, one could see the diferent members of the stag running helterskelter soliciting ads, taking pictures, developing them, writing and rewriting, taking annual subscriptions, and a hundred and one last minute details that had to be completed in order to make this book a reality.
