Knowing twelve years later they would go their seperate ways. A lot of fussing , fighting, and studying hasn 't darkened the days for we have always had a big time together. Carlene Willis, Melba Dean, Bobby Landers, and J. L. Edwards started and are finishing together. With a few dropping out and a few drifting in, these have stayed to face what came in the future years. Donald Saverance started with us, but by the second year he had moved away to Novice. Faye Aldridge came drifting in from down Goldsboro way the second year to remain the next ten years. Tommy Smith joined our now happy band in the third year from Spurg he also has lasted the rest of the time. From that time we had smooth sailing until our freshman year and then the class went apart like wet bread. Geanenne Willis and Nancy Sanders., who started with us, then left us for a happy married life. During our Sophomore year Fern Willis and Peggy Weeks joined the ranks of marriage. Alvin Edwards had gone to Lawn off and on, but joined us to stay our Sophomore year. Again, during the junior year, more of the class who had suffered with us left for marriageg this time it wasJuanitaCope1and and Yvonne Hudson. Peggy Parsons came from Breckenridge and Donald Saverance from Novice. We are now leaving Lawn High School a happy class. W W W 4 1i J 'W 'WW' 'N' H5v 'iW RI Y 'T 'Tl I. L. As I wastouring California in the summer of 1963, some very interesting things happened that I was least expecting. The climax of it happened one day while I was driving along Industrial Boulevard. I noticed that my gas register showed that my gas was low. Ilirove into the large, super-service station, the attendant hmried out to the car and without hesitation asked what I needed. To my surprise, it was none other than Alvin QApej Edwards. My first question was to ask him what he was doing there. His answer was that his home was there. He was operating one of his many Chain Stations in California. As we exchanged greetings, he called Melba from the cozy white cottage just back of the station. In her arms was babyLouise--a darling little blonde and behind her came little Patric, the very image of Alvin. Melba said that she had just received a letter from Faye . With the letter from Faye came the announcement of her fourth son. She also sent word that Cecil had had a very successful year as head coach at Sul Ross. A black Cadillac drove in for service. As he honked the horn, I noticed that he was another old classmate, J.L. Edwards. He had his usual smile and welcome. J. L. told us that he had just completed staging his new Musical HitonBroadway. He was then on his way to Hollywood to star in his first picture, The Belle of New York. Melba gave us a hearty invitation to spend a few minutes in her home. There she served us delicious cocktails. J. L. told us he had just seen Bobby jack in New York. Bobby had just returned from Brazil where he had been working as a Geologist for the Standard Oil Company. J. L. also told us that he had purchased some of the prized royalty in Brazil. It was worth millions. just then the postman rang the doorbell and left a letter. Melba opened it and found that it was from Peggy Parsons, who was very angry. Carlene, whom she had been working and rooming with had fallen in love with their boss and married. Theywere then on their honeymoon in Europe. Peggy said that she had accepted a job as private secretary to the new Secretary of Agriculture in Texas. X Through curiosity, I asked Melba who the new Secretary of Agriculture was. Alvin said that Donald Saverance had just been appointed to the new position. The most excitingw news climaxed the visit. Melba told me that after all their trials and tribulations in High School, TornmySmith andJoAn.nHo1-nbeck finally settled down to a life of tranquility and happiness with a producing orange grove near Bakersfield, California.
