Mr. Harry Shackelford has been a vital part of the community since 1947. The Laverne School, suf- fering from a war shortage of faculty and learning materials, responded to his firm, practical leader- ship. Highly respected in his field, he was appointed to the State Board of Education by Governor Bellmon in 1963. He is also a member of the State Vocational Board of Education. Other public offices held by him were Superintendent of Delaware County for 4 years and state representative 1939-43. Mr. Shackelford graduated from John Brown University, Siloam Springs, Ark., in 1929 with majors in English and social studies. He earned his master's degree from Phillips University in 1951. Classroom teaching experience was earned in the Kansas, Buffalo, and Tulsa schools. Mr. Shackelford will continue his role in education as financial advisor of LHS. S ac eCfry%d — Dedicated To the Tiger Staff, the sponsor Mrs. Bockelman, the students, faculty, and patrons of the Laverne School District: This is my last time to address you as the superintendent of the Laverne School. I have filled the position for twenty-one years and have seen many improvements during these happy years. The school enrollment has grown from approximately three hundred fifty with a faculty of seventeen to seven hundred and a faculty of forty. The school curriculum has been broadened until we are now accredited by the North Central Crediting Association. Fifty-eight units of instruction are abso offered. It is with joy that I relinquish the job of superintendent to Mr. Jayroe as of July 1, 1971. I wish for him, those of you remaining, and for the boys and girls who will walk rhe.se halls in the years to come, a glorious future. Sincerely, 2
