lU'itir citimi Mrs. Sarah Moore joined the Laverne faculty in 1954, teaching junior and senior high math and geography. During the 1961- 62 term she became high school librarian. She also taught read- ing on the junior and senior high level. Mrs. Moore's teaching career extented through 2 years at Knowles, 13 years at Rosston, and 15 years at Laverne. Due to Mrs. Moore’s dedicated efforts, the Laverne school library is now one of the finest in North- west Oklahoma. Of special value to students is the bound volume section of periodical literature. She organized the library pat- terned after accepted national library standards so that graduates could make the high school-to- college transition easier. fter retirement, Mrs. Moore intends to read in depth many of the books she has only had time to scan in her busy years as LHS librarian.

Be it i rat inn In the fall of 1935 a young lady full of determination entered the halls of LHS seeking the opportunity to teach. For twenty-one years Mrs. Helen Long has taught sewing, cooking, child care, housing, and other vital courses to two generations. One of Mrs. Long’s goals was to establish the first FHA in Laveme which has become the largest chapter in the district. Mrs. Long has not only been a teacher - she has been a good friend to many of her students. Mrs. Long enjoys playing bridge and fishing. She plans to be at the mouth of the Klamath River to salmon fish this year.

This year saw the old high school, constructed in 1925, sold and dismantled. A board-appointed advisory building committee studied future building needs. Fifty-six units of study are accredited for our school which grew with an- nexation to us by Rosston, May, Clearlake, and Overstreet, making a school district of more than six hundred seventy square miles and a taxable wealth of approximately thirteen million dollars. The grade school playground was blacktopped, and an addition was made to the agricultural bam. Football district championship went to the football team. Basketball, track, and baseball brought additional honors. The 4-H Club won district and state awards. The FFA and FHA members represented us well. Music honors brought additional pride to our school. Although we’ve come a long way in the last few years, much remains to be done with the future challenge resting on younger shoulders. I feel confident youth will meet the responsibilities and needs of its generation. A b ministrat inn Mr. Shackelford and Mr. Zollinger discussed future building plans. IsUl t SCHOOL BOARD Gale Hart enjoyed her office work. These busy citizens worked with school ad- ministrators to coordinate an effective school program. LEFT TO RIGHT: Everett Whisen- hunt, C. W. Robertson. Fred R. Wheeler - Pres., and Claude Zollinger. SEATED is Cecil Mitchell.
