Dear Seniors: It is a pleasure to bring greetings to you from the board of education, administration, and staff. Twelve years you have labored to reach this goal of high school graduation. Only time will tell how fruitful your labors have been. During your twelve years you have seen many changes in your school and community. A few remembrances that come to mind con- cerning the physical facilities of the school plant are building a fine new 5350, OOO high school fmoving from the old building to the new was a ball, wasn't it'?J, purchasing eight acres of land for an athletic field, constructing a foot- ball stadium with a 1200-seating capacity, in- stalling baseball lights, adding four new rooms to the elementary school, building a vocational agriculture building, tearing down the adobe garage building, moving the old lunchroom building across the road to make it into a bus garage, and installing chain-link fences south of the athletic field and around the elementary grounds . ' Improvements and changes in the school system that have been made are becoming accredited by North Central Association, growing from a high school of two-hundred to more than three-hundred students, adding numerous new subjects to the high school curriculum, establishing a top- grade library, changing to a floating class schedule fwhich temporarily confused all of usb, purchasing a cross-country type activity bus, and hiring Mrs. Huffman as school secretary. The growth of our community from around one thousand in population to nearly two thousand citizens and the development of the oil and gas industry in the area have also brought changes pertaining to the school. The growing of our school dis- trict's taxable valuation from three million to more than six million dollars, adding over two-hundred square miles to the transportation territory, going from a three- man school board to a five-man governing body, and appointing Bob Sumpter as dis- trict treasurer to replace Mr. Lake who had resigned after many years of faithful service are evidences of some of the changes. But the most important change of all is that you have grown from little girls in pigtails to young women of dignity and from small boys in blue jeans to young men of stature. All in all, I believe you will agree with me that it has been a good twelve years. Perhaps there have been some heartaches and some tears, but mostly it has been a time of fun, learning, loving, and enjoyment. May God richly bless each of you as you leave the Laverne High School. l Sincerely, WW c n Harry C. Shackelford 6
