CAROLYN DORSEY, Secretary CLASS HISTORY Second and third grades brought about more grown-up games. The first blades of green grass in the spring found the girls on the sidewalk playing jacks, jumping rope to the tune of Cinderella had a Fellow”, while the boys played marbles and baseball. During the fifth and sixth grades they were kept pretty busy making Christmas paintings and helping with school carnivals. They learned many new songs. They always looked forward to class parties. As sophomores they were active in many activities, such as serving the Junior and Senior banquet and participating in senior high sports. As Juniors they selected their class rings and put on a Junior play which was Going Steady’ . They all agreed that the theme of their banquet would be “Hawaiian Cruise . All of these were the result of much hard work. At last the year which they had thought would never come arrived-- and swiftly. Although they were sad about leaving so many happy and carefree days, they were anxious to see what lay beyond commence- ment. RUSSELL LAVERTY, President BILL MILLIGAN, Vice-President LEARN TODAY MOTTO: LEAD tomorrow FLOWER: blue carnation COLORS: blue and white CLASS HISTORY In the fall of 1949 the class of 1961 became first graders. This was the first step in a long and slow learning process. Little did they realize then that they would be the feature of the 1961 Tiger Roar. Their world enlarged as they stepped out of the family circle, made new friends, and began to learn first-hand about the educational process . . . teachers, classmates, games, counting, naps on rugs, handkerchiefs pinned on skirts, overshoes that were hard to get on, and, for the parents, gifts which looked as if they were built out of nothing but love. Each year brought the prospect of new teachers and new happen- ings and new things to be learned. As first grade beginners they started reading classes, struggled through phonics, and increased their counting ability, and topped the year off with a train trip to Rosston, Oklahoma.
