This was the first step in a long and slow learning process. Little did they realize then that they would be the feature of the 1961 Tiger Roar. Their world enlarged as they stepped out of the family circle, made new friends, and began to learn first-hand about the educational process . . . teachers, classmates, games, counting, naps on rugs, handkerchiefs pinned on skirts, overshoes that were hard to get on, and, for the parents, gifts which looked as if they were built out of nothing but love. Each year brought the prospect of new teachers and new happen- ings and new things to be learned. As first grade beginners they started reading classes, struggled through phonics, and increased their counting ability, and topped the year off with a train trip to Rosston, Oklahoma.
