Holmes' most popular novel, 'Lena Rivers' has ever been done in one simple interior set. And it has been accomplished without losing any of the warmth or fragrant charm of this vest seller. Mr. Alvert has ,faithfully made modern version of old tale and has followed the book faithfully. For years the many liked 'Lena Riveren exhibited in front of nay-any theater has been like magic it has played to standing room business everywhere and it is spell-weaving today as it was then because the play is so appreciated by a large audience of fun loving people. To these of you who have fogotten the story, it deals with the plight of young Lena Rivers and her beloved Granny Nicholas who are compelled to leave their New England home and seek refuge with Granny Nichol's son, John who-has charged the family name to Living- stone because of the social aspirations of his dominating wife, Matilda. Arriving in Kntucky where the Livingstones have a large plantation, Lena and her grandmother are subjected to the useual sort of treatment that is handed to poor relatives. Mme. Livingstone insists that they live in a small room that was formerly used to house servants, and she and her daughter, Caroline, tremble with fea1 at uhat their rich friends reactions will be to the awkward country girl and Granny-Nicholas. But there is one od Carolines friends who sees Lena'a potential worth--it is Durward Bellmont Durwerd becomes inamoured with Lena and starts to nay her attentions. Soon he realizes that he lover her but, she refuses to mayyy him until she can gain the friendship of Caroline and learn enough of the customs of society that she can prove herself worthy of his love. When Lena is introduced to Durwards parents he is immediately fond of Mister Graham for they are only his foster parents. Trouble is arouses as Mrs. Graham,fond of Lena, finds a picture which she presumes to Lena and tell of her Jealousy to both Mrs. Livingstone and Caro- lone who are bothe only too happy to start trouble of Lena. However Mr. Graham reases distrust and a long mystery by telling the story of his fx ,g, marriage to Lena's mother and of hteir separation.
