THE SPO IS DESIGNED TO DEVELOP LEADERSHIP THROUGH SERVICE. The Student Participation Organization is the governing body of our school. Each year one representative and one alternate are elected from each homeroom to serve on the Student Council, which functions actively throughout the school year. In 1962-1963, the S.P.O. council met for the first time in its own study hall during sixth period. This study hall acted without the services of a teacher, although it did have an advisor. The operating of a study hall with students alone was the first major step toward starting an Honor System at I...l-1.5. ' ' The ,positions of S.P.O. officers are held by Bill Parker, vice presidentg Gibby Gibson. presidentg Joanne McLeod, secretaryg Wade Hampton, treasurer.

FUTURE BUSINESS LEADERS. The officers of V.I.C. are Cecil Bowyer, Bobby Hogan, Ebbie Lassiter, and Harley Whiteside. The Vocational Industrial Club was chartered this school year, 62-63, with twelve members. It is our purpose to grow in scholastic achievement, vocational competence, social adjustment, and service to our fellow men. Our chapter is affiliated with the North Carolina V.I.C., andtwe have participated in the district meetings. The twelve members of V.I.C. work to help train good workers. 89
