The annual staff is composed of students from every When confusion reigns, it pours class who wish to do voluntary work. THIS IS OUR NEWSPAPER. COLOR IT BLACK, ALL OVER. No single quotation describes the philosophy of the 1963 Fighting Scott annual staff better than one's reach should exceed his grasp. With this philosophy we were bound to have failures and we did. However, we believe that our successes more than compensated for our failures, for we attempt- ed to do and did do many things that distinguish a yearbook as representative of a particular school. We take great pride in the originality of our year- book cover alone, and we hope that here we have set a precedent that will be followed by the year- book staffs of Laurinburg High School to come. Credit for the production of the 1963 Fighting Scott must be divided among many individuals. We are indeed indebted to Mrs. Eloise Hawk be- cause her efforts last year as annual sponsor en- abled us to do many things that otherwise could not have been done. She left us the best inheri- tance possible---money. Credit must also be given to Editor Elizabeth Jones and Assistant Edi- tors Karen Gibson and Linda Lundin who supplied the originality, encouragement, and hard work which are essential to every good yearbook. Of With his endless energy and his clever imagination Mr Thomas, our annual sponsor, urged us on to complete the yearbook successfully. You did what with the negatives? Paul Folmsbee and Johnny Sweeley gave much of their time so that we might have interesting photographs equal importance were the business activities ofthe staff directed by Business Manager Freda Howell with the assistance of Sally Roach and Ann Andrews. As we try to give credit where credit is due, we feel that we must mention Allen Webster, Suzanne Singleton, and Sylvia Clayton whose tireless efforts helped make this yearbook possible. Also on the staff were Ellen Jones, Shirley Wade, McNeill Gibson, Louis Sipka, Ed Guest, Bob Thompson, Bill Campbell, Johnny Sweeley, and Paul Folmsbee. In short, this year's annual is the result of the concerted efforts of many individuals. We hope that you will be as proud of it as we are.

Celeste Mason and Ann Medlin accept an award from Walter Spearman, Professor of Journalism at U.N.C., for their outstanding news coverage.

THE NATIONAL I-IONOR SOCIETY AND TI-III ORGANIZATIONS DESIGNED TO PROMOTE The members of the National Honor Society, Elizabeth Jones, Freda Howell, Linda Lundin, Karen Gibson, and Hope Keeton, represent the high standards of excellence in Laurinburg High School. We look up to you, Mr. Calhoun. Members of the National Honor Society are select- ed on the basis of character, leadership, and ser- vice, as well as scholarship. A minimum scholas- tic average of 90 is required of all members. A maximum of 5 per cent ofthe junior class and 15 per cent ofthe senior class are eligible for mem- bership. New members are received into the so- ciety in a very impressive tapping ceremony con- ducted by veteran members. The great honor of being in the National Honor Society inspires many to strive for excellence in scholarship and charac- ter during their school years. I at J
