FALCON BRIDGE -sf-an li.., .if ,,..4 Sudbury's world class Science Centre received a 31,000,000 donation from Falconbridge. inset: FaIconbridge's President H.T. Berry presents cheque to Science Centre President George Lund. Laurentian University President Dr. Henry Best looks on. Sudbury means a lot to us Falconbridge Nickel Mines Limited has been a reponsible developer of Canada's natural resources for more than 50 years. The history and growth of the company has paralleled that of Northern Ontario. Established in 1928 after many years of exploration in the Sudbury Basin, Faconbridge has become an important supplier of nickel to world markets and an important employer in the Sudbury region. Over the years. Falconbridge has operated under the belief that it is just not good enough to take from the land, you must also put something back. Falconbridges Sudbury Operations has turned this belief into a major commitment, As a matter of fact. Sudbury Operations has established seven basic policies by which we live and operate. Community As part of that commitment, the people of Falconbridge believe in improving the quality of life in our operating communities. Over the years, the company has provided assistance, either directly or financially, to thousands of educational, cultural, sport and community service organizations. We try to be more than just a good neighbor. This support has taken many forms, such as our recent 51,000,000 donation to the Sudbury Science Centre, pictured above, which our President, H.T. Berry, predicted will provide a unique learning experience for all residents of Northern Ontario and visitors from afar: and our large donations to the Sudbury General Hospital's CAT Scanner campaign, and the Memorial Hospitals Critical Care Unit. These benefit North Eastern Ontario as a whole. Then there is the Falconbridge Lecture Series which attracts important figures from academic circles, public life, the professions, business and the arts to Sudbury for the benefit of all. The lecture series is made possible through the Falconbridge Memorial Fund which is also supported by private donations. It provides an appropriate means of honouring deceased employees and recognizes the contributions of our employees to the progress of the company. Education We also work closely with educators to help create an awareness of the mining industry for students. In addition, the company continues to play an active role in the development of post-secondary institutions in the north such as Laurentian University and Cambrian College in Sudbury and the School of Mines in Haileybury. The company also provides scholarships and bursaries for students to attend these and other educational institutions. Employees Our support does not stop there. With approximately 4,000 employees in the Sudbury area, our tax dollars and pay cheques provide a significant financial shot in the arm for the entire region. In addition, Falconbridge people are an integral part of the community and our employees give of themselves, individually as volunteers, to help make Sudbury the wonderful place it is today. At Falconbridge, commulnity service is not just an obligation, it's a responsibility. FALCONBRIDGE NICKEL MINES LI ITED Committing itself to the future
