SENATE The Senate is responsible for the educa- tional policy of the University. In this regard the Senate may create faculties, schools, institutes, departments, may also create faculty councils and com- mittees which recommend to Senate regula- tions respecting the admission of students, courses of study, academic regulations, and requirements for graduation. Additionally the Senate has power to deal with matters that arise in connection with the award of fellowships, scholarships, medals, prizes, and other awardsg to confer degrees that may appropriately be conferred by a Universityg and to make rules and regula- tions for the management and conduct of the library. 11

Board of Governors The Board of Governors of Laurentian University is composed of twenty-four voting members and representatives from the facul- ty, the student body, the support staff and the alumni. The diversity of the region, which the University serves, is exemplified by the varied backgrounds, geographic locations and cultural heritage of its members. The committment of the Board to the stan- dard of excellence, which is expected of a University and which is shared by the Laurentian community, is of paramount im- portance. The Board looks forward with optimism and enthusiasm to the many exciting challenges that the University will face in the nineteen eighties.
