Kennedy. President Kennedy's style had a special appeal to youth and thus his death saddened us all the more. Perhaps his sacrifice will lead all of us to especially dedicate our future years to development of our individual lives in a way which will strengthen our nation and thus avert the repetition of such a tragedy. In Remembrance of-- The work of putting an annual together is a difficult task and in our first months of work we were aided and counseled by Mr. Jerry Chandler. Although we were saddened by his passing away, the work on the yearbook con- tinued. Containing m any of his ideas we hope that it will serve as a fitting tribute to a man whom we knew for only a short time but whom we came to care for in a special way as a counselor, coach, and teacher. 2 ' bm M 0 e , K m 1. Q r ,. .... . . v e D K., . .- L ' Wt In Dedication to - 4 The aim of our school is to develop our individual academic and social abilities. In the class room we strive to gain our knowledge from books. In our activities we strive to develop our personalities through our associations with others. Each of our teachers help us along our road to growth in both of these areas but with this dedication we wish to honor the one person whose help we appreciate in a special way. As our junior class sponsor this teacher guided our efforts as we planned our prom. ln the classroom we were challenged and encouraged by this teacher's tremendous knowl- edge ofthe difficult subjects which he was teaching, We always knew that extra help was available when a particular lesson proved too difficult. Sometimes we find it hard to express our appreciation for a job well done. With this dedication Mr. Schmidt, we hope to express a Small part of the gratitude which we feel for the help you have given us on our road to graduation. Table of Contents SECTION PAGE I. Your years here have laid the foundation for the future. Build upon it well, aim high, and success will surely come to you. Superintendent J. H. Halterman I am very happy to have had the pleasure of being associated with such a fine group of seniors. I know that you can fulfill your ambitions and live up to your class motto. You have proven your value here at school and you will prove your value to society in the future, Congratu- lations and good luck. Principal .Terry G. Hoenshel Yours is a class of many talents. Your hopes and dreams for the future will be fulfilled, I am certain, if you live each day in constant pursuit of your secret goals or ambitions. Let not a single day pass that you cannot proudly say, the world is just a little bit better off because of my efforts for this day . My ,faith in youth becomes even stronger asl note their growth and maturity throughout high school years. You will be ready when the time to take over arrives. Congratulations and best wishes. Zi The exotic valley of Shangri-La was a non- existent idyllic land depicted as a utopia in James Hilton's novel Lost Horizon. The three-course dinner was served by the mothers of the members of the junior class. Yellow and black streamers and an oriental picture complimented the stairway. Entry to the prom area was through a small garden. This garden had a dainty blue and white sky with twinkling stars. A footbridge arched over a winding blue stream which was studded with lily pads. Tables were decorated in gold and black with appropriate centerpieces, programs, napkins, and chop sticks. Twelve members of the freshman class dressed in coolie outfits served the dinner. A large pagoda and ricksha added to the dining scene, the east wall was a solid red with Shangri-La in large gold letters. To the north, participants gazed into a garden set with an erupting volcano, Ming trees and Jap- anese cherry trees in blossom. A stern life-sized Buddha in gold prominently filled one corner. A spot light played on a mammoth silver dragon. This ser- pent, with large red eyes and fire extruding from his mouth, furnished the background for many camera shots. Large sliding doors made up the western ex- tremity. These doors, partly open, revealed in the distance scenic mountains, streams, boats and trees. Hop-sing's Variety Show, headed by Thaine Hopkins, gave a short program. Clyde Lindquist, junior class president and general chairman gave the welcome to the group. Dennis Wright, senior class president, gave a response for the guests. A trio of junior girls and a quartet of junior boys presented two musical numbers with Anita Youngquist as accom- panist.
