CL-XSS PROPHFLW You may have heard most prophets begin an ordeal 1n such a manner as 'When I look into m crystal ball etc but in a case such as this lt would go somewhat in the following manner As I reach down lnto my tobacco pouch what is there to be found? Ah yes, twelve crystal clear marbles As I look into the first marble I find myself waking up in l96l to the rmg of a telephone atop my penthouse overlooking New York City It's my private secretary calling to notify me that my plane will be ready to take off by noon I've really been looklng forward to this because this is the day I will tour the United States to look up my former classmates The plane leaves LaGuardia airport as scheduled, making its f1rst 1mportant flight over Brooklyn As I look out my special observation window below I see the famous Ebbets Field wh1ch rem1nds me of the class athlete That's right 1t's none other than Doris Rose, and she's pitching for the Brooklyn Dodgers lt's the ninth 1nn1ng and Brooklyn 15 wmmng Great work, Doris Marble number two coming up This one 1sn't quite clear so I th1nk I'll call Detroit, Michigan the city over which we are now flying and find out the weather conditions When I p1ck up the re ce1ver and say Hello operator , I hear on the other end of the l1ne the voice of Dick Schemm Dick is a chief executive for Detro1t's automobile industry We will never forget his mama for cars Now he s in his glory w1th a private secretary and a new and different car for every day in the week Dick has a private road for his pleasure riding because he says there's no road big enough for h1m and somebody else As I gaze 1nto marble number three I now find myself flying over Wisconsin the da1ry state of the natlon Below, the rolling hills of thousands of acres of dairy land catch my eye Wait There is also something else that catches my eye It's a neon sign flickering on and off P1lot I say Give me a pan' of binoculars When I focus my glasses, I make out what it says and s1t bac in told me he owned a small ranch outside of Montana I had no idea he meant the state of Wisconsin Louie always was a good dairyman I have the plane circle lower and just by luck it IS a clear day and I can get a glimpse of Louie herding a group of cows But wait by h1s side IS a shapely crea ture with two big blue eyes that sparkle l1ke that pouch of marbles It doesn't look like Carol1ne DeBeauchamp but I would have sworn that Louie once liked her On second look lt does resemble her No I guess it 1sn't her Wait Over the roar of the engines I hear a loud voice yell, Lewis stop thatl' a very familiar excalamation which makes me realize I am wrong It was Caroline all the wh1le Did I have you worried Lou? That was two more marbles used and eight more to go The Fifth marble finds me focusing on an object coming toward us through the clouds It's an oncoming airplane do1ng every conceivable air gymnastic 1n the books Our radlo is flickering on and off picking up music from the fashion of Spike Jones to Arturo Toscanim and languages from the Ubang1 to the Chinese It must be a radio fanatic who would ever hook up contraptmons like those Our radio picks up a message from it that goes like this Do you hear me? Can you see me? Well any way 1t's me, Bill Walker Why how could anybody ever forget Bill? He always wanted to Join the Air Force and make use of radios his hobby While conversing with h1m over the set he tells me he had planned on Joining the Air Force after he graduated but he couldn't because they were overloaded He lost all interest in flying and got married When he thought he had Just got settled guess what happened? He was drafted into the Air Force We've been flying qu1te a while now and it seems we are approaching Cahforma We land and find the airport ambulance and crew waiting to check us over Here's another marble which must mean that someth1ng's coming up As I get off the plane a pretty young nurse starts taking my pulse When she takes my hand I know right away it is Marion Harrison I know Marion always wanted to be a nurse, but I never expected to see her all the way out here in California Marion is the head nurse at the airport and is married to a pilot out here She's proven to be a great success in the field she always wanted as her profession . . I - y ,.- . . . . , I . . . I . , . . . ll ll - . - - - - - . - - - - ll .. ll . ll . . . . ' . . .I k .I amazement. You are now flying over the farm lands of Lewis Marlette, Inc.
