x Pl-IYSICAI. EDUCATION CLASS HOME ECONOMICS Come with me to the top floor of the Administra- tion Building. Here wr- find a large sunny room with seven sewing machines and a group of happy girls. They have learned tn make new garments. tc- remodel old ones, to darn, to patch, and to embroider. The theory of food study is also a part of the course. This department is growing. and next year we hope to have a four-room home economics laboratory under our gymnasium. Here we will cook and eat what we cook as wcll as wear what we sew. This year we entertained our mothers on lVlotl1er'5 Day at a lawn party. Next year we hope to entertain groups in our own Home Economics dining room. Girls. be sure to take Home Economics next fall when you enroll at Laurelwood Academy. -Shirley Cooksoii WOO DWOR K Enter the woodwork shop at 10:45 and you will see nine busy boys under Mr. Anderson's supervision, making many useful pieces of furniture-bookcases, chests of drawers. end-tables. study desks as well as various novelties. I. for one. do appreciate the privi- lege of learninq cabinet-making and the use and care of tools for pleasure and profit. -Rollin Anderson ART Laurelwood's beauty spots have become a little more beautiful to the art class as it has endeavored to cap- ture some of nature's charming scenes. The joy of life ig increased as we observe more closely God's han- diwork, even the birds sing more sweetly. In addition to out-of-door sketching, included in this course are lettering and poster-making. painting, and blackboard illustrating. I believe I can speak for each member of the class when I say we have enjoyed a happy and profitable year under the direction of our capable instructor, Miss Miller. You are invited to join ug next year. -Jane Pendergast TYPING Typing is enjoyable, as well as practical. If you have ever watched a typist's nimble fingers click away the letters, you will understand. The Gregg Artist method is used at Laurelwood. and what a joy it is to receive achievement awards for thirty, forty. fifty. or sixty words per minute as the year passes. Students who achieve a certain degree of accuracy have membership in the Junior and Senior Order of Artistic Typists. An honor roll of Competent Typists is kept as the achievements are gained. Whether fin- qers are long and slender, short and stubby, makes no difference. Practice makes perfect : and where there's a will. there's a way. -Frieda Jahn
